I am ashamed to say that sometimes I forget that I have pieces that I have owned for years and due to newer purchases put in the draw and forgotten about!
I can't say I completely forgot about my Citizen 2100 but it lay in its box, power reserve depleted for a couple of years. I had the Breitling for a big quartz chrono and my ever burgeoning vintage collection to occupy my mind and of course my beloved Air King which has been rarely off my wrist these past two years!
But when I was thinking of selling Breitling the 2100 came back to my thoughts and I dug it out and put it on the window sill to charge up.
I decided to wear it today and it was only today that I took a really good look at it and scratched my head as to why I had left this beauty in its box for so long!
I had forgotten that Citizen for instance hand build this one in their high end factory in the Japanese alps. I forgot the amount of hand labour that goes into building them and the amount of parts they contain. I forgot how beautifully the mechanically actuated chronograph pusher work and feel. The biggest surprise though was the sheer quality and three dimensionality of the dial. The Geneva stripes running horizontally across the dial.
The sunken sub dials framed by chrome finished rings and that the white numbers on those sub dials float as the sub dials are clear so as to allow the solar collectors of the Eco Drive to collect sunlight. The faultless screen printing, the bright lume and the immaculate brushing of the bracelet.
It then hit me the build quality far exceeded my outgoing Breitling!
I am kind of ashamed to admit I forgot it but on the other hand it feels like I have just gone out and bought a new watch!
I can tell you one thing, this puppy is not going back in the box any time soon, I am just going to thoroughly enjoy the level of detail and quality Citizen put into building this watch!
I hope these pictures convey the level of quality I am on about!
And finally an image I found of this watch showing all the components that are in it!
