That's looks like a great sports watch. For biking, I want to be able to glance down at my handlebars and see things quickly rather than try to look at my wrist which takes my eyes off the trail too much. I ended up getting a different Garmin at Christmas - the Edge 810. It works perfectly for what I want and does link to the iPhone. If bad weather is approaching, a weather alert gets sent from my phone to the 810 and flashes a warning up on the screen. It also allows me to send a link to Laurie that she can use to track my rides live. This is nice for when I go out alone. If I'm not back on time, she can log in and see if I am still moving and if not, she could call me and if I don't answer, she can send help assuming I've crashed. buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into-sports/cycling/edge-810/prod112912.html

Wow, got to love technology. It has enhanced our lives in so many ways and features like those offered here can be excellent for safety like Roger points out. I'm anxiously awaiting the day I get a smart watch to use too.

He went off the trail and down the hill out of view of the other riders on the trail. He cracked ribs and punctured a lung. It took him more than 45 minutes to pull himself back up to the trail and then wait for another rider to come by and call for help. It was a daytime ride, but on a day off during the week. I don't worry so much about daytime crashes because it's usually weekends or after work when the trails are busy. It's more the night rides when I go out solo. I like knowing she can track me if I'm late and see if I am still moving along on the trail.

Certainly, and this puts it all into perspective. We are (ok, our health is) the number one asset above all else and these devices can pay for themselves. Anyone who saw the move 127 Hours or heard of the true story which inspired the film could never disagree with this logic.
The main thing holding me back with getting one is the fact each year something new comes out. None of the previous ones (Samsung or Sony) really did it for me. Something like this that could be used in the pool would be the ideal companion. Nothing against my G-Shock Riseman that I swam in yesterday but it's so basic now compered to these.

I have to look into this smart watch stuff, for my daughter, Erica, who is a Marathoner. She trains by running outdoors, alone, and this would be a good idea for her, or I could just pick up one of those Breitling Emergencies for her.... LOL...

Yeah, the "Live tracking" feature is great for people who are out on their own. Garmin said they developed that to track people during a race so you could catch up and watch them at multiple points along a race, but I think the safety aspect is an even better feature.

Good point. Darn, and I was was just on my way to pick one up. I know she wears something in her arm band that tracks her miles, and maybe even her heart rate, but I don't think it has a GPS function that her hubby can use to track her.

I'm happy with my Pebble. I like it for around the house.

It's certainly worth looking into with the benefits a GPS device offers. Having an all in one package on the wrist seems more convenient to me anyway. If she swims and all of that too, a nice water resistant smartwatch is the ideal fitness and safety pal. One of the best investments someone can make who spends any time training alone, for sure. If that ever did happen it could very well be a game changer.
