lagunatic What are your thoughts now after seeing the watch and a few others for a second time? Any closer to making the choice?

Chip, If I am using too much bandwidth with all these ridiculous photos, just delete the thread, I will understand. You’re alright. No worries, Ron.

rw16610,What's your opinion of the watch? In your shoes I would 100% go for it! The watch looks amazing on your wrist and you deserve a reward for your success. Given the fact you're getting a good discount, selling your two tone Submariner for close to $10,000 USD, and potentially selling the Daytona you've got every bit of justification needed to make this purchase!

Rommel, I just called my AD on the east coast and she predicts a price increase in January because of the low inventory. She told me I'm at the head of the list for the ceramic Daytona. If Rolex has a price increase on the platinum Day-Date, then I will just back out and concentrate on the ceramic Daytona for a fast flip. It will be easier for me to sell my Two tone Submariner and not take a loss. I have a feeling a lot of money will be coming in in the next few weeks from my investments. I have a paper gain so far for the year of $1,176,511.19 as of 12/1/2017.

That's fantastic! Those pharmaceutical stocks have a good yeild! What's the current MSRP on that watch again? Any idea what the potential increase will be? Maybe 3%? If anything is think you should try get it done before January to avoid that possibility. The Daytona would sell almost instantly anyway.

Finally came across that gorgeous AP you tried on, hidden among all the other photos! That really is gorgeous. I actually like it better than the DD40! I was looking at the videos of the AP again a few weeks ago, and that brand is, as Roger knows, another one on a level of it's own. Were you really considering it as well as an option?
I have seen the AP in real life, and also a gold Patek Philippe Nautilus. Both with gold bracelets. Although the craftsmanship on both is meticulous, there is just something about the President bracelet on the Day-Date, just how fluid it feels, that really gets me. I don't say it is any better in terms of quality and craftsmanship, I just prefer the feel and the looks. Possibly the nicest metal bracelet I have ever tried.
Nevertheless, I have to say that AP does look gorgeous! I know they are quite a premium in price over the gold DD40, and I am guessing not far off the price of the platinum DD.
Cheers, Carl

On the ceramic Daytona it is $12,400.00 USD. I will make my final decision in the next few weeks when my dividends and capital gains come in. I can tell you one thing, I'm definitely going for the Daytona to flip, no matter what the price increase is.

Cheers, Carl I was talking it over with the sales staff and they said that model AP I was looking at will scratch if I use a toothbrush to clean it. They said I was better off with the platinum Rolex model. Plus, I don't know where to get a good discount on that AP model.

lagunatic What are your thoughts on the Platinum Daytona, aka "Platina"? From - hodinkee The MSRP on that Day-Date is a bit less, I think the list price on the Platona is $70,000 USD. BNIB I've seen them for $50,000. Just curious what someone with the relationship you've got with that AD could get one for. I personally think it would look good on you!

I don't care for the Daytona, especially with all those dials. I just want a watch that's waterproof and has a date window. I want the platinum Rolex Day-Date 40 for the bragging rights and brand recognition. I want to show the public that I can afford a $43,000.00 watch. As you can see, I am a very insecure person.

The platinum DD40 is a stunning watch. The difference in hue between SS, WG, and Pt is subtle but it’s real and the heft of the Pt is surprising. I say go for it.

Totally understand as the Daytona isn't for everyone. The date function is one I also find very useful and difficult to be without.
You see to really want this watch. Your honesty is appreciated and I truly think you've got more reasons to get this in comparison to reasons not to.

I just got word my investment income is coming in on December 19th. Now I will be partnering with the Internal Revenue Service and the California Franchise Tax Board. The money I pay in federal and state income tax, I could gift the forum members with nice Rolex watches.
