Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. I had no idea there were so many "different" methods for this.

That really is a great explanation of all the coating technologies out there. I'd love to see it take the next step and come up with some QC standardized tests that represent normal wear and tear (5000 abrasions a day with a shirt cuff; 500 desk dives at a certain pressure; 5 dings a day with a hard object (vehicle, overhead bin, door jam, etc), exposure to X amount of grit / body oil per days, and more), etc. to see how they hold up in similar environments.

That would be a really cool read!

Good read. I saw it on Watchville but i was swamped at work and didn't have time to read it.
Finally got around to it, and I found it interesting.

Very interesting read! Unfortunately, from what I read, they are all coatings except the ceramic. In any case, I guess because I had a bad experience with a DLC coating, I tend to stay away from them. Including ceramic. I had a DLC coating on my Breitling Avenger and, although it was tough and quite scratch-proof like most of these coatings, they never mention that they are quite brittle and can shatter. Exactly what happened to mine. As I was sitting at a table with a metal frame - my hands were at my side under the table - and raised my hand, it clipped the edge of the table and it chipped a bit off the coating, exposing the bare metal on the bezel. Would have been very expensive to replace the entire bezel, as that is the only way to fix it.
Anyway, I love the look of these coatings, but need to stay away. Unfortunately, one avenue of pleasure that is closed for me.
