Curious to hear what everyone thought about the new releases and such. Personally, I have to clock my favorite in on a watch that has received a lot of flack when released. My favorite was the Girard Perregaux Laureato releases. Especially the all steel with the blue dial, and all pink gold with the white dial. The steel is in a 42mm, and the pink gold in a 38mm. There are certainly some IWC ingenieur and Royal Oak aesthetics in it. However, the Laureato was first shown in 1975 and last remastered in 2003, I think it was due for a remaster and I think GP did it wonderfully. In 2003 the steel model was almost 15 thousand US dollars. Now it is 11,000, in-house movement of course. Short of the Panerai Lab ID with the 50 year service interval, nothing really grabbed me at SIHH this year.

Did you see the Zenith chrono's? The ones with the overlapping subdials? I think that makes them less functional so I'm not a fan. |

Well, I haven't been following it much, at least all the reports. Even though I will never likely get another Cartier - I don't dislike them, they just no longer suit my lifestyle - I did admire the Drive de Cartier Extra Flat:  I am always hoping that they will come out with a Tank Solo with a manual wind movement, instead of quartz. I realize the XL model has a modified ETA movement, but I would love to see the Tank Solo stainless steel with a manual wind movement. |

I do admire the new GP Laureato models very much, in spite of the date at 3 o'clock. But they did an exceptional job with that date window with beveled edges and colour to match exactly the dial. The watch reminds me of an AP Royal Oak - in a very good way - with the dial and bezel shapes, just a lot smaller. Beautiful detailing.

I thought that some of AP's releases were interesting, but not quite interesting enough to justify their ridiculous prices. Overall, I'm with Baco Noir in saying that the new Pam was probably the most exciting release. |
