Beautiful New Grand Seiko SBGJ227 LE
Grand Seiko just announced their latest limited edition, this gorgeous SBGJ227. Green dial Grand Seikos have long been some of the most sought-after, in part because of their beauty and in part because of their rarity.
This new SBGJ227 uses Grand Seiko’s latest Hi-Beat GMT movement, the 9S86, so collectors are getting the absolute best mechanical watch GS offers.
But the real treat is the textured green dial. It’s a very interesting design that still evokes an almost sunburst appearance due to its raised, radiating pattern. GS says that this was inspired by a peacock’s tail.

Nice watch not worth the money Out of curiosity, is it because you can get non-LE Hi-Beat GMTs for less?

Gorgeous watch and not a bad price imho for a LE from GS. Love the high beat movement too.

I think it’s beautiful, and I actually see it as a good value. You get a whole lot for your money.

I also love the case, seems to be similar to the one on the 037 I used to have.

I also love the case, seems to be similar to the one on the 037 I used to have. I had the same thought. The article says it’s based on the 44GS, and I believe mine was the same. I’ll have to see it IRL, it’s tempting.

Looks like it to me, from the angular lugs anyway.

I'm a sucker for green dial watches. This one is stunning. I have tried on a few GS GMT models, and they are all gorgeous. In this day and age, for a LE model, with the hi-beat movement and incredible finishing, it is a very reasonable price. I was very surprised when I saw the price. Another LE that I don't think will last long. Knowing GS and their LE models, this dial will only be done once. I think that is great for the exclusivity of the watch.
The angular case on this is stunning, more so in real life, As is the gold GMT hand and accents. I really don't think anyone, except Rolex, do a job of the GMT models as well.
Notice how the background of the date window exactly matches the brushed hands as well. Amazing attention to detail.
Great pics and review as usual.
Cheers, Carl

I wish I could take credit for the pics, but the truth is GS actually took some decent ones themselves for once!

I think this is the most beautiful Hi-Beat GMT GS I have seen yet. Although, the SBGJ213 Ti with black dial and gold hands is a favourite also.

Nice watch not worth the money Out of curiosity, is it because you can get non-LE Hi-Beat GMTs for less? One of the things that really impresses me about Grand Seiko is that if there is more than one dial variant of the same model - same metal case, of course - the price of the LE model is the same as the non-LE.

In spite of being a sucker for green dials, this SBGJ013 ( or now SBGJ213 ) with the deep grey translucent tuxedo dial, gold GMT hand and accents, and titanium case, is still my favourite GS GMT. The titanium case and bracelet is without a doubt the most beautifully finished titanium watch I have ever seen. I think they still have one of these at the local AD here in Vancouver, and it's around 10 grand in CAD. But still worth it. As much as I hate to admit, i would have a hard time choosing between this and the Rolex GMT II, although I think the Rolex would win in the end.
