This was pretty easy for me to decide (hints why it's been technically broken since 2012) however, I've taken a liking to it again recently. For the past few years I've left it out to get light so it stays charged and the battery indicator always remains at full! No issues at all with that or other functions BUT the sensor (for temperature, barometric pressure, and altitude) has failed.
Anytime the watch got wet the sensor was not able to produce readings, of course. Back in the day before getting the Orient it was my main watch to wear swimming. It became routine that a few hours after a swim the data would return. Sadly, one day in 2012 this was not the case! The readings never came back and nothing seemed to change this. Casio told me it was just under $100 before taxes back then to do it (I paid around $200 on eBay) so didn't bother.
Speaking of eBay, after doing a search to try find the module (would swap out my case covers and strap) no such results were found. It did appear as if Casio discontinued this watch some years back and this is indeed reflected in the listings. Although I've had a thing for these watches since childhood they don't seem to truly last mainly because of the materials used. One of the main reasons I bought the Riseman back in 2009 was the fact it has the thermometer, barometer, and altimeter integrated into it! I've still got the box and all of the original items that came with it back in the day (it's me after all...).
Anyway, just wanted to see what you folks would do in this situation. Today when I called "The Time Shop" they were unable to give me a worst case scenario ballpark figure on the repair. It has to be sent in (or dropped off) for the estimate to be done which takes about a week. Luckily it's not far from me (in Markham Ontario, 20 or so mins drive). Again, the fact the watch is now discontinued and most of the new ones (in my opinion) are terrible looks wise. I debate it though because looking back on how little it's been used it makes me wonder, also afraid it can happen again! All thoughts are welcome:
