Tough choices.
I’m odd, in the sense that I see a smooth bezel as “unfinished”, and I have always struggled holding on to one.
In photos they look great but on the wrist I always see it as incomplete, as if the bezel fell off. I’m weird though, and I am aware of that lol.
With that said, to me nothing represents Rolex DJ better than the fluted bezel. From its functional origins as a way to unscrew the top, to the decorative meaning of today, I see that as the quintessential feature of a DJ.
On to size.
I have a small wrist, and I have a vintage 36. It looks small, but it doesn’t look bad. But. It looks small, and I’ve had people ask me if it’s a ladies watch. It doesn’t bother me, I use that an excuse to rant about watch history and explain that 36 was quite big in the past, with 34 being the norm. By the time I’m finished, I’m usually alone at the table.
With that said, fluted 36 Date Just is Just Right, but the 41mm Date Just is Just Right-Now.
So that would be my choice. 41mm DJ with Fluted bezel.

Also, it's not uncommon to see the ladies wearing the 36's in DJ and DD versions. My wife impounded a DJ from me and it's her daily wearer. The DD is hidden somewhere in the house.

I think the fluted with jubilee is a great choice. The reason for the fluted over the smooth is scratches / nicks - they are inevitable will be hidden better on the fluted. For the light dial, I'd recommend white over silver as it adds just a little bit of contrast and makes it a little less monotone, but still keeps it conservative / classic.

Thanks for the replies so far. I should have clarified the pix were for the bezel and bracelets. Having said that I appreciate your thoughts on sizing also.

Well, I don't like the "half-and-half", ie Jubilee and Smooth, or Oyster and Fluted. For me, either Smooth bezel and Oyster Bracelet, or Fluted Bezel and Jubilee. For you, I would say go for the "works". Get the Jubilee Braclet and Fluted Bezel, for sure. Had it been a year or so ago, I would have said DJ36. After wearing larger watches now, and having seen the DJ41 in real life, I would say that is the one also. It fits really well, and I would say even with Jubilee/Flueted Bezel it's wearable with any attire. Certainly great with t-shirt and shorts. And, I think it is great to have a bit of bling as well. Over the years, I have really grown to like the Cyclops as well. I guess because I still have a passion for Rolex, and some of their watches look unfinished without a Cyclops. In a way, it also adds a bit of casualness to the watches IMO. Of course, I do have the dateless OP34, but I would rather have that than a Rolex with date and no Cyclops. Even though I agree that Chip is "weird" , I do think some Rolex models, especially the DJ, just look like there is something missing without the Fluted bezel. Especially if there is a Jubilee bracelet. For some reason, I feel if you go with a plain bezel, then get the Oyster bracelet. Guess I'm weird, too!! Yes, I think your collection would really be well rounded with the DJ41, Jubilee and Fluted Bezel! No question! Looking forward to photos! Very excited for you. Cheers, Carl

Mark Since the dial color isn't set yet, my favorites in the DJ line are the blue, black and white with stick hour markers. And I agree with Carl, that the jubilee and fluted can go with shorts and at-shirt just fine. Heck, my AP and BLNR with the PCLs do that as well.

I might also add: I was over on another Rolex forum, and looking at recent wrist shots of the new OP39, both white and black dials. While they look great, IMO the DJ41 definitely has the edge over the OP39, although equipped with white gold fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet, almost twice the price. Still, if you can afford either, IMO the DJ is definitely the way to go. Just my candid opinion.
Cheers, "Butter"

I did try on a OP39 in white. I liked it but I found it too similar to the Explorer. I guess I could get the centre links polished for the bling factor.

Smooth with Jubilee. Blue or black dial with stick hour markers. The edict from the the "boss" is no more black dial watches. I have blue covered with the Tag Aquaracer. Seem as she bought that for me, it ain't going anywhere...

Absolutely love mine and I’ve worn it with suits as well as shorts.
