Just an interesting short article here"Altieri doesn't think Rolex is purposefully suppressing supply; it’s just that demand is so strong for a luxury item like Rolex watches, he said."

I think Eric Wind nails it… There are a ton of new buyers who aren’t really watch people, 1) they want to buy for the status and see it as an investment or 2) want to buy only to resell for a profit.

I have always believed that the shortage is due to supply and demand. Although I don't currently own a Rolex, I have always believed in the company. That their morals and ethics are always in place. I am able to see first hand in my own city, which has a relatively small community of ADs and Boutiques, just how there are many ways to buy and sell these watches. One of my friends, also one of my favorite people, owns one of the most prestigious ADs in town. Also a leading Rolex AD. He believes in Rolex as I do. I respect his word more than just about anyone else's.

From an article on Time + Tide: "EDITOR’S NOTE: This week on the Australian Watch Forum a Rolex Oyster Perpetual with a Tiffany blue dial went up for sale for $24,000 AUD – about three times more than the recommended retail price." Those OPs with the colored dials have really created a stir. I recently saw a red one at pre owned one at a local AD for about 2.5 times the original price. Rolex watches at this AD rarely last more than a day or two! The markups on the OPs seem to be even greater than on other models, even Daytona. Currently there is a TT Daytona at $28,995cad. The original MSRP is $20,250cad. Doesn't seem too bad compared to a 300% markup!

There are 337 new OP 36 on chrono24. Price range $7,295 (grape) to an absurd $24,031 (tiffany dial). The listing ends with a number of "price on request" offers. Hope none of em are fakes. A "new OP 36" performance chart from chrono24. Not sure if these numbers are list or sold.
