nice watch gary.. do the chrono functions work? how much would this alpha cost? Yes, the chronograph works. This is really just a two-register chronograph, however. The sub dial at six o'clock is really just another 12 hour marker; it is not part of the chronograph. Keep in mind this is the Sea-Gull ST19 movement, which is essentially a 19 jewel Chinese made Venus 175. The Swiss Venus 175 is widely considered to be one of the best column wheel movements ever made. Supposedly, when Venus went out of business in the 60s, the chinese bought all their equipment, as well as the rights to the movement. They then started producing 175s for their home market chronographs and stopped buying Poljot movements from the Soviet Union. So, with this Alpha you get a superb chronograph movement, excellent overall construction, decent strap, and a sapphire crystal--all for around $125. Having one of these in your collection seems like a no-brainer to me.

Since the subdial at the six position is essentially useless and not part of the chronograph (since the 175 movt is a two-register chrono movt), Alpha should have patterned their chrono after this Panerai:
