i am not a great fan of invictas, especillay all teh probelms with QC that owners have.. i would say other brands like alpha, croton, seiko etc etc show you can have good value for money watches without the QC issues of invicta

I can't think of a better 99 dollar diver. To be honest I am not very impressed with most of Invicta's other offerings.

I don't think I'd ever count on an Invicta "diver" for any sort of diving where the watch needed to be a dependable tool in relation to the dive. I remember reading on the old Invicta forum about the guy who wore his new 8926 on a Carribean vacation and the first time he went in the water the watch flooded. He took it to a watch maker and they discovered the back had been put on without a gasket. The best froog divers, IMO, are by Seiko: Any of the monsters or the 007. Seiko actually pressure tests these watches before they ship and you can count on them as REAL diving tool watches.

i am impressed that seiko can do this for such a price point.. I don't think they actually pressure test the finished watches (the way Rolex does), just the empty cases before assembly. I could be wrong about this, but I think I remember reading about it on the SCWF a long, long time ago.

I should have said "desk diver" I think that all mechanical watches are pretty much impractical and obsolete for anything beyond swimming and snorkeling. If you're using scuba gear you should be using a dive computer, something like this and they are not cheap.

Warren, I understand your reference to the 8926 as an "ultimate froog"; however, I still have to think that this beauty fits that bill perfectly . . . Croton Swiss Diver This watch has a 300' depth rating, an ETA 2824, sapphire front and back - all for $115.00. Unfortunately, Croton doesn't sell this watch any more. What a shame - it's my daily wearer, and I love it.

Pat you're right, I'd buy one those in a heartbeat. That's an excellent value. I also think the hands are nice, gives it less of a Sub look.

The invicta & croton are both looking very nice. If i ever encounter one like these above... it would be fun to start self regulating it.
