Hey Guys -
While I was in the Metroplex this week, I got a chance to slide over to Fort Worth and visit Ridgelea Watch and Jewelry on Camp Bowie. It's right next to the Black Eyed Pea.
They carry a good number of quality watch lines - Rolex, Tissot, Chase-Durer - and - are you ready? Ball!
I was greeted by Steve, who is the jeweler. Very nice folks - and they let me play with all the watches I wanted. If you get a chance, go by and say hello and take a look at what they've got.
I'm going to place an order for an Engineer Hydrocarbon GMT. Handling these watches make all the difference in the world.

I heard you were going to check out some Balls (no pun intended ) while in DFW. So you're ordering one? Can't wait to see some pics of that baby. Is it the one Karl has/had? About this watch shop....how are their discounts?

Hey maccars, A big warm welcome!! Tell me about the Ball Hydrocarbon GMT. I 've seen pics of it and it does look interesting. Seems to be a very strong well made piece.

I love the Hydro GMT, never actually held one in person, but the gas tubes and heavy duty construction along with those textured dials makes them winners IMO. Also have great prices

Well,
I was actually going to prepare a review of the Hydro GMT. And still will.
But, I can give you some impressions.
The watch is called the Engineer Hydrocarbon GMT. It is a big, heavy watch - it's mass is similar to my Tissot Seastar 1000; certainly a little heavier.
It is extremely well crafted - with a really nice bracelet which is heavy, and uses a clasp similar to the Invicta 99xx series and Omega bracelets.
The dial is so much better looking than the pictures I've seen. It is textured much like the Omega Seamaster GMT, and contains a date window covered by a domed sapphire crystal. There is no view of the movement.
Of course, the lumination is very impressive. Although other brands use this technology, all of Ball's offerings have them. Once ambient light is removed from the dial, the tubes glow like a lightening bug!
I'm sold on the watch - I'm going to order one with the white dial (I believe Karl's is black).
When I get it, there will be pictures and a full review.

Adam, you're right about that; very few around. I made it a point to go see those guys in Fort Worth just because of that.
And, seeing and handling the watches in person makes all the difference in the world. I bought a Trainmaster Pulsemeter from a guy in Indonesia, and I liked the watch - it just wasn't what I expected, and I sold it.
Handling the others in their line up really gave me the desire to own another. The are really high quality watches with excellent workmanship.
One thing that helps is that Ball is improving its web-site. But, putting one on really makes a difference.
