This watch is an extremely rare, fully skeletonized and engraved Valjoux 23 movement. It is mounted in a heavy 18 ct gold case.
The Valjoux 23, along with its close cousin, the Valjoux 72 , is considered the best chronograph ever made. Used by Patek Phillipe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron, and other top brands, the Valjoux 23 established a reputation for quality and accuracy never surpassed. Made in comparitively low numbers, the rarity of this movement makes it even more desireable.
At the beginning of the 1980s, the firm of Alfred Rochat in Les Buis, Switzerland was commisioned by one of Switzerland's four leading brands to make this luxury skeletonized and hand engraved Valjoux 23 movement.
The watch that used this movement cost over $30,000 in the 1980s. Alfred Rochat made a few extra movements for themselves, and a few cased by them have turned up on the market. The case is 18 ct yellow gold with a slight rose gold tint. It weighs 55 grams and has a 10 gram 18 ct gold buckle. The diameter is approximately 39 mm . It is one of the most beautiful watches ever made. The hand engraving and skeleton work done on this movement is highly impressive and very elegant. This watch is in mint condition, runs well and looks almost like the day it was made. It has been treated with care and consideration.
The price is $5,000 . It represents a rare chance to purchase a combination of the very best in Swiss craftsmanship and technology.
