My town sends out a monthly magazine to the residents and the back cover had an ad for this watch on it. For some reason that I can not explain, it was love/lust at first sight. IWC Doppel Chronograph Top Gun Ceramic.

Not a fan of the logo on the back - at least they didn't put anything on the dial!

I've always like that one....other than the 46mm part.

I just wish that the non Top Gun split chrono would have the red stuff on the second hands. I think that's the part I like the most . The ceramic case on the Top Gun is pretty cool too.

I'm pretty sure that I saw this watch when I was perusing my local AD last week. A beautiful looking watch, but way too big for my liking. The 46mm case and then the added buttons on both sides of the watch....just too big. But IWC certainly makes nice stuff...that's for sure. -Ben

Hi fellas...new here. I'm not a watch expert or anything, just recently started adding to my collection last year. Until then, I had TWO watches, maybe a third one counting a sad little puegot sitting (retired) in the back of a drawer. Pathetic, I know, but I'm making up for lost time. I'm at about 15 watches right now, all sport or casual dress models, nothing too fancy or expensive. And I refuse to pay full retail!
Speaking of 46mm vs. smaller watches, what's this trend said to be sweeping the watch world toward ever larger (massive?) sizes? What explains that? I can understand a 250# man wearing a 50mm watch, especially if he has an 8" wrist, but that doesn't describe the majority of men out there, does it? I haven't noticed very many oversized watches and none of my friends or acquantances seem to be wearing them. At 172# and 6ft, I'm pushing the envelope at 46mm but I prefer 41-43mm. I just bought a 46.5mm Haurex that I reluctantly decided to keep because I really like it, but it's a bit past my 44mm cutoff. Since it's all black, I think it *seems* a little smaller than it really is. Has anyone noticed that some bezel designs contribute to a larger or smaller *apparent* size, so that one watch at 44mm can seem smaller than one at 42mm, or vice-versa? TIA.

Almost forgot to add...beautiful watch by IWC, Chip. I agree with whoever said that a little more color on the all-black model would be nice. I rarely if ever think a watch with a monocromatic dial looks better than one with more color detail. see'ya

Me too. The back is corn!
Tickit - I think the trend toward the giant aviation watches are homage to WWII flight crew watches which were actually pocket watches with lugs soldered on. They were worn over the heavy flight jacket and the crews needed to see them while the filling in their teeth vibrated out.
I have a Steinhart that's about 44mm and although it's cool as all get out, I prefer the Rolex and Omega size, both sport and dress.

Can't say I can say the same for the back.

Thanks, Al, I guess that means it's kind of a retro style thing. I am trying to avoid any watch that *forces* me to put on a pair of glasses to see it, not a problem until just a few short years ago. Yeah, I'm over the hill.... tickit
