Yes it's fickle old Me again....however this really is a decision that needs making. I have been offered a BNIB Sub LV from my local AD for just over 17% off rrp! He'll even supply (& fit as and when I need Him to) a new black bezel insert for it, all in the same price! I would have to sell the SMP 2254.50 (with the non AC dial and "Bond" bracelet) in order to "top up" my existing budget, which is currently put aside for an Omega DeVille "Power Reserve". However, I am in two minds, I love the SMP (although in retrospect I think I prefer it on a "Speedy" style bracelet as the "Bond" is just a little too fancy for a diver IMO) but would prefer a Sub or PO on reflection. I am still unsure what to do. I don't want to pass up on a great deal like that and I do love the LV but don't want to regret selling the SMP and passing up on the new Deville Power Reserve that's on it's way. It's not so much the selling of the SMP but more the not being able to get the DeVille PR that bothers me. What to do eh! :confused1: Ideally I'd like both the Sub AND the Deville but the figures don't stack up. I can't put more cash than I already have saved towards the Deville into it unless I want to get divorced!!! So, I either keep what I've got and resign myself to either getting a Sub a/ Never! or at best b/ A long, long time from now. Either way I would still have the Tag Carrera 64' retro as well. Is the Sub deal too good to pass up? Would YOU go for the Sub or stick with the SMP AND get the DeVille PR? Cheers.

Macros... how long have you wanted the PR for in comparison to the LV?

I thought this was a question about pretzel preferences....
By the way, that PR is beautiful.

Macros... how long have you wanted the PR for in comparison to the LV? I know! However, I really think the LV is more me and will get more use. I have had a dress watch before, the idea appeals to me BUT.....the reality is that I end up hardly wearing them! This happened with the JLC Master RDM I had. A beautiful watch but hardly worn! Don't get me wrong, the PR's lovely and I'd still like one someday but I have to prioritize and right now I think sports watches are more me. Of course being me that could all change within weeks!!! I'm still not 100% sure what to do and I can decide whilst I wait and see if I get a buyer for the SMP. I'll treat it as an omen if I do and likewise if I don't. I will wait until the PR comes in and see it in the flesh, then I'll know for sure which way to go. Cheers

Yeh wait it out and see who cries out the loudest for you! If you are like me, once you've got an idea in your head, its hard to get rid of that idea. I'm guessing you'll try out the LV... if you dont, we'll be responding to this type of post again soon enough because you will still want that LV. I also think that the more you swap watches about the more confusing it really is. They all become a blur. I'm at that place now. Had so many pieces, it's hard to get attached to any of them. I feel sad that that's where I've ended up.

Sounds to me like you'd rather have the Rolex and want us to help talk you into it. The short response is: By what you really want.
The fact that the AD offered to replace the bezel insert would appeal to me. I have to be honest. I can't stand the green bezel. But if they'd change it out, then you get the novelty and practicality.

In this situation, I would go with the LV. The price they offered you is only a couple hundred over what preowned are selling for. Being able to swap the bezel insert is nice, too....although I love the green.
The only problem I see with the LV is that you have owned and sold a 16610 before. I have a feeling you will end up selling the LV for the same reasons you sold your other Sub.

hmmm why did you sell your other Sub Mac?
I've had a love hate relationship with the Sub. Owned the same 14060 twice but out of all the Rolex models, I find myself drawn to it the most. I still want one! I drive myself crazy sometimes.
So I can kinda understand where Macro is coming from.

I have had a dress watch before, the idea appeals to me BUT.....the reality is that I end up hardly wearing them! This happened with the JLC Master RDM I had. A beautiful watch but hardly worn! Can I ask ask why you didn't wear the JLC? I would consider the RDM a "dressy" watch but certainly not a "dress" watch. To me a dress watch is a slim manual wind with time only (sometimes just hours and minutes only) in a gold case. I wear all sorts of "dressy" watches in almost all situations. I have never yet had a watch get damaged or felt it was too formal to wear with jeans. So unless you were doing construction or scuba diving, I can't see why you would not wear the watches that are dressy in style. If you didn't wear the JLC then get the Rolex because it sounds like it will be the same situation with the power reserve Omega. Either way I think we'll be doing this again.... Cheers, Al

For once I agree with Al. The RDM can be dressed up or down. I see no reason it couldn't be worn with jeans and a polo. I'm wearing my Master 8 Days with jeans and flip flops today.....works for me. If you didn't wear the JLC then get the Rolex because it sounds like it will be the same situation with the power reserve Omega. Agreed! ....damn that's twice!

Damn it! Of course you're all correct! I, like Amanda get saddened by my lack of ability to "bond" with any watch for any length of time. I enjoy the thrill of the chase but not that much! I originally sold my Sub 16610 because I started to prefer the plainer look of the Sea Dweller, without the cyclops. I traded it against an SD and loved the SD, keeping it for a record of nearly 3 years! (2 years on the Sub). I never had a problem with comfort or the bracelets on the Sub/SD although I acknowledge the more solid feel of the omega bracelets. I also prefer the "coin" edge bezel to the SMP style on a diver. Just a personal thing. The 40mm seems to fit me better than the 41-42mm divers (SMP etc) as I have fairly slim wrists (6.5 - 6.75" dep on temperature) I then started to hanker after a "dressier" watch for formal occasions (which I hardly ever attend!) except for when I sing in concert with my big band but as I said that's not often nowadays. I, as always seem drawn to the more expensive models, I can't help it I must have good taste but shallow pockets! So I by-passed the De Ville PR and got sold on the JLC RDM. I realized that I couldn't afford it without parting with the SD. I didn't want to, It still made me smile but at the time I wanted the JLC more so I convinced myself to sell it, get the JLC and get a cheaper diver style watch with the change (SMP). Since then I have not "Bonded" with a watch and often thought it a mistake as I was driving home from the AD!!! Bottom line? I can't afford all the watches I'd like, not even both the models that I'd probably settle down with (Sub & De Ville PR) so... Why not get at least ONE of the two and see what the future brings for the other? I will (if I can sell my SMP) get the LV and keep the Tag 64' retro Carrera. Then I can consider either a trade or part trade for the De Ville later on down the line. If I keep the SMP and get the new De Ville, I stand to lose too much if I should try to sell it on and also Rolex would have put their prices up another 50% by then!!! So selling the SMP and getting the LV makes more sense as I can find a pre owned De Ville sometime for a lot less than the £1,800 I would pay now! It was a mistake to sell the Sub/SD and along the way I've lost money hand over fist with my dithering. The reason I now look at the LV instead of an SD? Well, my eyesight is not getting any younger and I always struggled to see the date (which i use a lot) on the SD, I'd struggle even more now. Therefore I now think the cyclops is the way forward and coupled with the maxi dial I get max readability on a watch I love! I may even get the crystal (or cyclops alone if poss) changed over to a GMTIIc which has the AR coating on the cyclops. My AD will do this as well as supply and fit a black bezel. Anyway, a little insight into the mind of a serial flipper so as to understand the idiot better

IMO most watches on straps can be worn with jeans unless they are "true" dress watches with really shiny straps...those might look out of place but the bottom line is....no one else cares what you wear. BTW it's -20C here today so no flip flops around here... If you didn't wear the JLC then get the Rolex because it sounds like it will be the same situation with the power reserve Omega. Agreed! ....damn that's twice! Okay this has to stop....not only did it pain me greatly to say "get the Rolex" now Sam has agreed with me twice. The end is near!!!!
