It's been a dream of mine.. sandwich dial 40mm base, manual wind in a 40mm Luminor case. So the question is.. is it possible to (using a dremel) sand a few mm off the edge of a base dial to be fitted to a 40mm Luminor case? Anyone on here seen anything like this done ever? I know how to get hold of a 40mm Luminor. I'd have to buy a naughty watch and remove the fake panerai dial for a sterile one. That would give me hands etc to use, then I'd need a movement too. I've NEVER seen anyone with a homage/sterile 40mm Luminor for sale. Is this a crazy project idea or what?

In all my research on aftermarket cases, I've never seen a 40mm luminor case.
Would be cool if you could pull it off, but I'm not sure it's possible.

I dont think so either. The dial would be the hardest part to sort out. and I'm not exactly a handy person so trying to shave mm off a dial intended for a 44mm case would end up bumpy!

I think if you could even overcome the dial/case issues, a 6497 would be a very tight fit in a 40mm case. The smallest case I've ever seen for a 6497 is 41mm. I think you would be looking at an automatic movement....you could always remove the automatic winding bridge and use it as a manual wind.

After discussion with Atomic via PM. I think I'll pick up one of these pieces whilst I can and then look around at getting the dial refinished to remove the 'Panerai' markings off it and make it sterile.
