A buddy of mine has a tired auto TAG Kirium and is now thinking of ditching it in favour of a quartz. He wears his watch everywhere (and it shows ) like working under the car, mixing concrete, to his office, casual, etc.. His only other criteria is it has to be on a bracelet. So any suggestions for a tough as nails quartz on a bracelet that can do all duties short of going towards a plastic-digital-ironman type watch? Thanks

If it were me, I'd pick up a Marathon TSAR Very tough watch with great night time lume via the tritium tubes. When I get some extra cash, I'd like to pick one up. They do come on a bracelet. It comes from a company in Canada....How fitting is that ;D ;D I've got a friend that really likes his. I don't know what your friends budget is, but this is my recommendation.

Yep... I know the Marathon SAR well... assembled in Toronto and made available through the PX to servicemen/women and coast guard.
IIRC they're around $500 used???
I could bounce that by Scott... the Canadian connection would be good too.

SAR is a nice choice. What about a Luminox? Cheaper than the SAR and every bit as durable. FWIW...I used to have a SAR. An auto not a quartz.

I've got the same Luminox that you do, but I also bought the PVD bracelet. The PVD takes a lickin' but doesn't hardly scratch. I'd take a Luminox over a Marathon SAR any day of the week. I thought the SAR I had was a good looking watch, but overpriced for what it was. Here are my 2 Luminox on bracelets.

What size are the Luminox watches? My buddy is the owner of self-described 'girlie-wrists' and doesn't want to get much bigger than the Kirium which IIRC is under 40mm.

It's all in what size watch you like. If he is looking for something under 40mm, his options are going to be limited.....unless he want's a girlie watch to go with his girlie wrists LOL. ;D

I've made these suggestions to him... turns out he thinks he'll just get his TAG fixed. Thanks for the suggestions.

Beware of Luminox! I purchased a 1837 Luminux and one day after 4 months I looked down and noticed the crown was missing. I set the watch when I purchased it and never touched it again. The crown simply fell out. Understanding that these watches are touted for their reliability, I fully expected Luminox to repair the defect under warranty. I called the USA Luminox corporate headquarters in California and was told that my problem was not covered under warranty. They refused to stand by their product. Tough luck. So, if you purchase a Luminox watch and it starts to fall apart for no reason as mine did, be aware that you will receive no satisfaction from a company that supposedly prides itself in it's build quality. I've also read other stories about the watches failing underwater and again, Luminox refused to repair under warranty.

Without going to WIKI for any info, I can tell you I have a Defaubre (Steinhart) Ocean 1 Quarts Magnum and it's cheap and tough as nails. I really don't care what I do to it including breaking it. Tell your bud to have the TAG repaired and put it in the box for a better look.
