Considering an opportunity where guy closing a store and offering this watch new for $475 (says retail is $1500 and normal discounted retail price is $900). Seems like great opportunity even if I decide I do not love the watch (am not loving the wristband). My questions are: Are there any strong negatives you all have to report? Can its age be pinned down? - He says its from "around 2008" but it appears from my online research it is probably at least 20 years old. Did Movado make the same watch for over 20 years? They seem to sell for more than he is asking for as preowned, so it seems a safe bet, but I'm just wondering if its too good to be true. This has a stainless steel bracelet (with ugly bumps, or ridges), but its nice that the clasp is hidden. The face is black with 3 white subdials, it has day and date at 3:00, and is an automatic. Price seems too good to be true for a new automatic Movado, even as an inventory clearance. Any advice about this watch would be appreciated. I know next to nothing. Thanks!

The movement in that watch (ETA 7750) is worth nearly as much as he is asking for the entire watch, so provided it functions properly, it's a good deal.
Just be aware that if the watch needs a service, it won't be cheap. Timekeeping will be difficult to judge on the spot, but you can wind the watch, check the quick-set day and date, and also run the chronograph and make sure the central chronograph recorder hand runs smoothly. Also make sure the hands reset exactly to the right location. With the time set at 12, the hour, minute, and chronograph hands (minute and seconds hands) should all be right on top of each other and pointing to the 12 o'clock position. The hour recorder hand should also be pointing excatly at the reset (zero) positions.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Al
PS - my rate for servicing a 7750 based chronograph is $400 just as a reference for you.
