I have not checked my Speedy 3750.50 for weeks. Especially since I got my AT, the Speedy goes to work with me, then on goes the AT after work and all weekend. When I'm not wearing the Speedy, it sits crown facing down. I do wind it every morning, though.
Decided to check it tonight. Now, I don't check it and try to coordinate with the small seconds hand. Without the hacking feature, it's just too difficult to get it really right for me. However, when I check the time clock and the minute hand, they are bang on! That's more than good enough for me. I figure that any other watches I have had, the time would be out by now at least a minute if not more.
I don't really understand a lot of the mechanics about these things. I do know that my Speedy was not nearly this accurate the first few months I had it. Although I have to say it did very well. Suddenly, a few months ago, every time I checked it, it just seemed to be out by a second or two either way.
Must confess that lately I have had my eye on the Speedmaster Apollo 11 40th Anniversary Limited Edition. They still have a NOS at the Boutique (I'm not surprised at a LE of 7969 pieces). It is basically identical, except for cosmetic differences: quote: "The small seconds counter (sub-dial) is a medallion which features an adaptation of Apollo 11’s famous mission patch: an eagle descends to the lunar surface with an olive branch representing peace in its claws. In the distance, far above the horizon, the earth is visible." There is a brushed, rhodium-plated small seconds hand for the sub-dial. The chronograph seconds hand is red-tipped, and below the words “OMEGA Speedmaster PROFESSIONAL” on the dial, the legend 02:56 GMT – the exact time that Neil Armstrong made his “one small step” onto the moon – is displayed in red.
I would only have 1 Speedy, so I would sell the one I have to fund this one. Admittedly, I am a sucker for red accents on hands and dials. The subdial small seconds is attractive, too, and the whole watch is not overdone IMO. There is also a unique caseback which matches the subdial small seconds. The bracelet is also the updated model with the screw and pin system.
Here I am rambling again! The point of the thread is the accuracy of my Speedy, and I got side-tracked.
Cheers
