A few days ago, the AT8500 with blue dial appeared on the Omega website, available now in large 41.5mm size. Here are both the midsize 38.5mm and the large 41.5mm side-by-side:

Hi, Carl
I'm not surprised. I knew it was only a matter of time. I've heard arguments that the 41.5mm dial is more balanced in appearance, but seeing them side by side, I think the smaller dial looks better. Of course, I AM biased. It always amazes me how pics don't even come close to showing off this piece. I'm wearing mine now, and it is just such a stunning blue. I honestly can't think of any other watch that I'd rather own....

KAT Not a big surprise for me either. I personally love the midsize. And I did have the large size at one time, a few years ago. It had the teak grey dial. It was a beauty, but every time I wore it, all I could think of is how I wished that I had got the midsize. So, I eventually sold it. I knew at one point that I would get a midsize again, it just happened sooner when the blue dial arrived. The AT is actually, for me, what should have been my first gold watch. I had been waiting to get a Cartier Tank Solo Large in yellow gold, I was convinced it would be my next watch. After the AT Skyfall came out, it was put ahead of everything. This weekend I saw the exact Cartier model at the AD, and even tried it on. No contest. I really don't know if I will ever get a gold watch, all I can say is this AT can't be beat. I even like it better than my Speedy. There....I said it!! Cheers, Carl

Any idea how the two compare in thickness? My first impression is that I like the bigger dial. Both have the 5 minute intervals (5, 10, 15, 20, etc) behind the hour markers, but only the larger dial are the really legible - not that they even need to be on the dial. Proportionally, as long as it's not too thick, I think I'd prefer the 41.5mm version.

I'm not really sure what thickness the midsize is, although I read on various forums it's either 12.5 or 13mm. I can't imagine the larger size being much, if any, larger than that. Will have to check it out next time at the Boutique.
The AT is certainly not a thin watch. I know that it's thickness has been an issue with quite a few members on the various forums. I personally don't find it a problem. However, I have tried on the De Ville Hour Vision a number of times, and did find that to be unusually thick for a dressier watch type. Of course, the fact that most of the case is sapphire crystal plays a big part in that.
I must admit that before I made the purchase of the AT, I was looking long and hard at the Rolex Sub 114060. I was very impressed at how thin it is, especially for a diver watch. I can't honestly say that I found it any more comfortable than the AT, though.
Now I am interested to find out the difference - if any - of thickness.
Kind of annoying that Omega - and Rolex, for that matter - will not post either lug width or thickness of the various models in their tech specs. That is one thing I really appreciate about the Breitling website, they provide all that info plus the weight of the watches.
Cheers, Carl

I can't imagine the larger model being any thicker than this one. It is quite substantial. As for the chapter ring, it's very legible, because the dial is stepped, the ring sitting below the hour markers. I, of course, haven't owned the larger model, but many guys who have, like Carl, flipped them, in favor of the midsize version. The lack of a substantial bezel contributes to the illusion of this watch being larger than its measurements. Best to try both on, if you can, before deciding which size to order. Should you decide to get one,.......I know a guy.....

Next trip to the Omega boutique, I'm gonna try 1 on. Think a AT will be my next Omega, when who knows.
