OK, so after drooling over my 2007 Watch Annual now for a few weeks, I thought it might be neat to start an ongoing thread showing watches and brands that don't get talked about much. These will be subjective, at least my choices on these, because it will be watches that I think are cool!
Anyway, my recent purchase of a Bell & Ross has really made me start exploring other "not-as-well-known" manufactures and I hope that we can get some fun discussions going. Oh...please excuse some of the scans. The Watch Annual looks good from a distance but when you scan the small images you see most of the dots from the printing process. Such is life.
OK, here's my first submissions:
Here's the RGM Master Chronograph. Bob mentioned Roland G. Murphy (RGM) in my post on the National Watch & Clock Museum and it happens that this one was a watch that I had already drooled over and scanned - so here it is.
The RGM Master Chronograph uses a heavily modified Valjoux Calibre 23 (manual wind). This is a limited edition of 25 pieces and at $17,500 MSRP is big bucks. But, MAN!, what a looker!
My next choice is the Day-Date Central from German maker Jörg Schauer. Interestingly, Schauer now owns STOWA as well. For me, this one really sings to me and it's now on my wanted list. Hmmm....maybe Christmas. Anyway, I really like Schauer's designs and I was impressed in an interview where he said that he works on every watch himself at some point in the manufacture. This one has a modified ETA Calibre 2836 and can be had with a black face as well, though I really like the cream-colored face in the photo. With a street price about $1,800, this is a pretty affordable watch made by a small output maker whose owner is hands-on.
OK, for the last offering of this first post, I give you the Kobold Soarway Diver. For me, this is one of the classiest divers out there. I just love it's simple elegance and clean classy look. These have modified ETA 2892-A2 movements and, in stainless steel, have an MSRP of $3,450.
I spotted a doctor in the operating room one day wearing one and we struck up a conversation and I got to look at one up close (he stainless version with blue face). WOW! These are very impressive watches.
But...the photo I've included next are Kobold's limited-edition, blinged-up versions of the Soarway. I have to admit that I don't particularly care for blinged tool watches, but I think that this is the classiest presentation of a tarted up diver I've ever seen.
OK, here's the first offerings. I've got lots more, but let's talk about these. Oh...and please feel free to post your own offerings. The more the merrier.
