Free imaging software

I used to use Jasc Paintshop pro for years till i started using PS.
Been recommended GIMP before as a freeware, but think it takes a while to get used to.
Been enjoying SketchBook on my Galaxy Note 2 for drawing.
@chip have you found the Note3 any better?

I've tried Gimp but find it difficult to import RAW files. I'm sticking to PS but the non-cloud version.
