Folks. I sold a Brietling to a fellow in the UK and am looking for a way to ship from the US that doesn't cost as much as the watch. USPS will only insure to $650.00 and I'm assuming the rest of the risk. Any suggestions? Thanks AL

I shipped an Omega SMP to the UK....but like you said, the insurance is minimal. In my case I remember them saying they would only cover up to $55 bucks. Not sure how much UPS or FedEx insure up to, but I know UPS rapes you on insurance when shipping within the US. I can only imagine how much they charge when going international. See what the buyer wants. If he wants it insured UPS, then offer to split the cost with him. If he's OK with uninsured USPS, then make sure he's OK with the watch not ever showing up. But in my experience, I've had MUCH better luck with USPS than UPS or FedEx.

UPS will insure the full amount, but you get UPS service. WHen I sold my JLC Memovox, I used UPS and it was fully insured.. but they lost the package for a few days. The vast majority of Paneristi seem to use FedEx but I haven't looked at them for overseas.

I shipped a Daytona once via FedEX and they insured it for 10k. I think I paid in the area of 40 dollars or so for insurance. It was only going to Ohio, but I remember that FedEX next business morning fully insured was about 70 bucks. For some reason I thought that USPS will insure for more but you have to take it to an office in person. Have you checked with DHL? They are huge in Europe, and they might not be an arm and a leg.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I've emailed the buyer to ask if he'll take the responsibility for the balance, haven't heard back. USPS will insure for the entire amount but it's about 25% more than FedEx. UPS is even more expensive and I'll try DHL.
Any others, please feel free to jump in.

i would definately recommedn fully insuring your watch.. for the sake of $50 or so it is worth it as the Uk postal service has lost 2 of my incoming watches from abroad..also try to work out how long it takes to arrive from your end to the UK and work backwards so that the watch doesnt reach uk on friday or something, as if it hangs around post depot over weekend that is when a lot of the stuff goes missing/ stolen. The problem in Uk is that the authorities are not serious about crime, and even if these thieves are caught they only end of with a warning.
