Hi, I am looking for digital compass watch that will work inside the car. I looked at the Timex expedition model and it said that it may not give good results in the car, buildings etc.
I need a good digital compass watch that can tell me in which direction I am going out of 360 degree 15 degree accuracy is good enough for me.
Can someone please tell me if these Timex watches are good for this much accuracy inside the car? or can someone please suggest a good digital compass watch under $100 ?
How would you compare digital compass feature of Casio's $150+ (G-shocks and others) vs Timex expedition??
Thanks

Hey sparc...welcome to the forum. Just about any compass is going to have trouble when surrounded by all the metal in a car.....not to mention all the electrical wiring going on in there. I don't think any one of the compass watches is going to be better than another in this situation. If one were to work, the others should work.....if one doesn't work, the others shouldn't work. As far as the overall watch goes....in my experience, a Casio Protrek would be a better choice than one of the Timex Expeditions...a much more robust watch. I still favor the Suunto's for an ABC watch over any other brand. If all you really care about is a compass with 15 degree accuracy, you might just be better served by a $10-15 mechanical compass....Suunto, Brunton, & Silva all make a decent compass in that price range.

This thread reminds me of the dashboard compass my father always had.....horribly ugly thing mounted to the dash. Looked ridiculous and I'm not sure it every really worked. I actually saw a car (Buick of course ;D ) the other day with one mounted. I didn't think they even made those any longer.....

My father had Volkswagen buses for years and years and I remember that every time he got a new one the compass had to be transferred to the dashboard. My car actually has a digital compass built-in as part of the dash display. It's pretty accurate. It doesn't give actual degrees, but every time you take a turn or go around a curve it changes. Mine can't be the only car with this: I thought every car had one now. -Ben

Every car I've had since 2001 had a built in compass (very handy to me, since I suck at identifying North... South... East... West... ) so I am sure that there are tons of makes out there that have that.
