My late Grandmother always took us out shopping for a watch when we turned 21 years old! Being a girl who looks after her stuff, my deinty Seiko is sitting upstairs in as new condition looking like the day I got it BUT My Brother being the boof head that he is, has pretty much trashed his Pulsar diver. At the time my Gran didnt want to get him this particular watch as she thought it was too bulky Anyhoo it needs some TLC.. so I'll be taking it to get a battery fitted and a more appropriate strap.. whilst it's in the shop it could do with a good clean too.. its a bit yucky So what do you think a rubber strap? Or a leather one? Any other ideas on what I could do with it? ? He says he'd like to wear it as it has lots of sentimental value (its expensive in sentiment rather than anything else I'd say) so my Mum asked me to get it all fixed up as part of his Christmas present. I must say I'm tempted to put it on a nice leather strap and just buy him a Seiko Monster that he can wear daily! I just hope the movement isn't stuffed as the thought of spending more than the cost of a battery on it doesnt appeal to me.. is that wrong of me to think that

Now that is a well worn watch! You can see where the gold tone is worn off the bezel "protrusions." And yes, it's filthy! I think a rubber strap would be good if he intends to get it wet. I'm not a real bracelet fan so I can't really help there. I hope that when it last stopped someone took the dead battery out? If not, it may have leaked and that would damage the movement. My guess is even if the movement needs replacing, it won't be a lot of money. I have no idea what series of movements this watch uses, but the simple Japanese quartz movements are fairly cheap - anywhere from about $8 to maybe $50 at the higher end. If you can open the case and tell me the movement number, I'll see if I can find a price. Cheers, Al

That's an attractive watch and yes as Al said, well worn. I think if he'll wear the Seiko you get him, then go ahead and put the proper sized leather strap on, otherwise it's screaming for a rubber one!

I can't see the pix, but why not put it on a leather strap and get him a monster on a rubber strap.

Hey, now that is a well loved watch! Mind you, the dial & crystal etc still all look fine, and they usually build those things pretty well. I'm going to agree with the others here and say that a nice leather strap would look good, or even if you can find a well-priced rubber one too, show him how to make strap changes! Fingers crossed the movement is OK too!

So on a related note, got this pocket watch from a cow-orker who asked if I could crack it open - needs a battery. He's a Leaf fan so I took pity on him and agreed to take a look. Now people complain about big cases and small movements, well here's an extreme example of that! So I removed the battery, but also noted the movement reference of "PC21" as you can see on the right side. I checked the Otto Frei listing of quartz movements, and that movement is on sale for a whole dollar off the regular price so a bargain at $4.95! So even if the movement is shot, it won't be expensive is my guess - although it might not be this cheap! Cheers, Al

Hey no Leaf jokes... This is the year they will win Lord Stanley's cup (and I've been saying that every year for the past 30+ years . ) Looks like a Harold Ballard Special, that watch.

Thanks guys.. I'm taking the watch into the watch shop next week, so I'll let you know how it goes. I've also found a nice shark strap on watchprince for an ok price, might look nice on it... Stay tuned

Hey guys remember this post? Well turns out that the 'movement holder ring' is damaged and a new part is no longer provided by Pulsar. So the watch is not repairable Is the repairer lazy or is it not repairable?

I wouldn't be surprosed that the part isn't available any longer, but I am a bit puzzled how the movement ring would get damaged inside the watch? As you can see from my post above they are sometimes plastic, but also some are metal. I'm not quite sure I agree that it can't be repaired, but without seeing the inside it's hard to tell. If you could get photos that would help a lot. Al

I wondered if my brother didn't pull the case back off himself to fit his own battery he's a 'fiddler' from way back I'm starting to think that it's just not worth worrying about, I'll give it back to him.. if he's really wanting it to work, he can do it himself!
