About to buy my first great watch!

Here is the story. Within the next 3 wks I will be buying my first great watch. The problem I'm having is deciding on which one. It is either going to be a Breitling Superocean or an Omega Seamaster or Speedmaster. My budget is around $2200. The watch will be worn daily. I work at a software company and don't really ever get dressed up other then maybe some dockers once in a while, mainly jeans. I am pretty rough on my watches. I don't dive so that's not an issue. I do like the bigger watches, they look better on me. So the Speedmaster is a bit on the smaller size then I like, but I love the design. The one thing I really like about the Breitling is it feels very sturdy. Sooooo much to consider, my head is swimming and I go back and forth each day on which one to get. I also really like the Seamasters.

Welcome to the forum. Tough choice. All are great watches.

I guess it's just a case of getting the one that you reallly want the most. Best advice would be to go to an Authorized Dealer (AD) and try on some Speedmasters, Seamasters and the SuperOcean. See which one you like the most. It's as simple and as complicated as that. Oh, and take your time.

Firstly Welcome to our forum! great to have you here. Buying a first good watch is often difficult.. but before you know.. you've got a whole sock drawer full of them!
Which omega speedmaster are you looking at? the speedy reduced / day date are small at 38mm but the speedmaster professional is 42mm so i wouldnt say it is that small.. it is a classic imho.
I think you need to decide whether you want a dive style watch or a chronograph. If you want a chrono.. then i would definately recommend the originla omega speedmaster professional.. it is one of the best ever chrono's made and a legend! it is sporty.. but with a nice leather strap can be worn for formal.
Of the others you mention, i owuld go for omega seamaster as i think that it is a more flexible watch.. looks good casually and with a suit.. it is also the best diver you can buy at its price range. Breitling is good but more of a tool watch.

Hey ml,
Of the three you mentioned my first choice would be the Seamaster as a "first" great watch. Very strong and does go well with anything. I'm partial to the Bond,but that's just me.
Rambler has the best advice,try them all on and see which one talks to you the loudest. Any way you go you'll end up with a great watch that will serve you well for a long time.

You can't go wrong with a Omega watch.
If you really want a big size watch, 45mm? Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean? Orange/Black
Seamaster Bond/ or the Black one (2254.50).
Speedmaster Professional Hesalite/Sapphire?

If you like the seamaster I would say that your choice is already made

If you try one on you wont want to take it off, it is perfect for everything, you can wear it to work, play, swimming, anything. It looks great with any wardrobe and the quality is unlike any other.

The speedy pro is a great choice also, but a little more expensive, and you might not be able to get a new one for $2200.

I think if you are looking to spend about $2200, the SMP is a great option, you can probably get one for around $1500-1600 brand new then you have $500 left over to get another nice watch

The tough choice is between the Bond or black dial 2254.50, now thats a tough decsion

Anyway you will be happy with any of the Omegas or Breitlings and will probably end up getting them all sooner or later, so it comes down to which one you want right now

I agree with all the above advice and most important make sure to try on all the watches before you purchase and buy what makes YOU happy.

Go OMEGA. just kidding pick the one that makes you feel.
