I don't have an iPhone and never will as I have a loathing of high tech phones in general so this watch is never going to be an option for me. One question about it though I do wonder. Apple keep going on about their special 18k which is more scratch resistant, they do not mention anywhere I have read that it's plating though (perhaps another case of Apple Hype conveniently forgetting to give facts perhaps?). If it is indeed solid gold then who on earth is going to shell thousands out on something that won't be supported and will be redundant in 5 years time? I do think it's cool but for me the novelty would wear off pretty quickly plus I really loath the direction the world is taking in having its population constantly connected to employers and work, to me it's just one step closer to slavery, well paid admittedly but slavery none the less, always at the beck and call of their masters or customers! Well said, Ian!

Apple stuff reminds me of the Dallas Cowboys. Everyone complains about how they suck and how Jerry Jones is a nitwit and has brought shame upon Dallas (hear that JFK fans?) and how they'll never win again but they still flock to the stadium like it's a Wal Mart 1 hour sale, buy the tickets, the shirts, the NFL merch, the pizzas, the Dunkin Donuts and the bullsh*t.
Don't like it, vote with your dollars.

I bet one of the most popular things will be the various styles of wallpaper. I would pop over to some developer forums and post a picture of the wallpaper you want, I bet you will end up with it.
I think its fun and looks well executed but as I said not for me simply because of it needing iPhone hook up. What is amazing is the cost, when you look at what else is out there its pretty cheap especially when you consider apple stuff works a charm and looks and feels great.
I used to be a PC man until 2011 when I went through three higher end laptops from different manufactures, all developed problems that could not be fixed (and I am kid glove with my stuff). from my experience with my iPad I bit the bullet and got a 17' MacBook Pro and never looked back, just effortless and the quality is stunning (within a month I would get shiny keys on a PC but three years in these still look like new!
Apple to hype a bit though and I still have not found an answer as to wether its solid 18k gold or gold plate, anyone know?

I can't figure out why anyone would need a watch that has to be linked to a phone. This device is top heavy with gizmo features some of which are not only superfluous, but duplicated the phone in your bag or pocket. If you are carrying your iPhone in your pocket why would you need a miniature clone of it on your wrist? Incoming calls, SMS and email are all received on my iphone and I hear it or feel it in my pocket. This watch may have a future OK with those who wish to be dominated by technology and are a slave to a phone and its pathetic social links. It appears that the watch has to be charged within a 24hr cycle. What happens if your area is suddenly subject of a power outage, say by a serious weather front or storm? Your phone won't work when it's battery fails and your Apple watch will die even faster. My Seamaster will work just fine in such events and as long as I am able to move my arm will work on long after the circuitry in an apple watch has died. There was no mention in the Apple presentation by Tim Cook of its durability or its effective range from the owner's iPhone.
The smart phone iPhone 6 is greatly improved and eliminates the need to carry a camera, camcorder, tape recorder around with you as it has all these things inside and they work great. It even has the time and has a very good chronograph, alarm, stopwatch and multiple timezones, so why in the name of all that's logical would someone need to have a watch with all the same features?

So rooting around it does indeed look like the gold version is solid gold. They are talking around $1200 for it so it must be an incredible thin shell at todays prices to be that cheap. I know Rotary do a few quartz 9k gold watches at under a grand but I don't know of any 18k that come under that. One would have to really love this in 18k and with money to burn knowing apples lack of support after 5 years (if my old iPad1 is anything to go by that is)
If this were a stand alone product which acted as a watch computer in its own right it might be a fun thing for me but then again, I just know I would never end up using the features apart from iCal. My luddite Alcatel phone can act as a WiFi hotspot and the plan i have gives me unlimited internet and across North America calling for $40 a month so I can simply connect up to my iPad Air and use Skype and other communication devices which is cool. Especially as in last year on top of a mountain in Banff I could video chat with Marianne in Vienna and show her the scenery!
