Hi guys,
Is Longines a good watch? I have heard about the brand for many years, only pay attention to them recently while shopping for a wrist watch for myself within the range of USD1000 - USD1500.
I bought a Longines Lungomare at USD950 in Malaysia, the cheapest among my target : Oris Frank Sinatra, Longines Lungomare, entry level Tag Heaur.
Did you think i made a right choice? Consider the hamble price, i though it's worth.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Longines has a very long and proud history and is an excellent brand. I hope you managed to get a discount of your lungomare, as if i am right it is a quartz? and certainly i have seen them on UK based sites fr a lot less.. about $700 usd. Seems like quite a fashionable watch, although not really my taste. wear it in health

Longines has long made quality time-pieces. They are now part of the Swatch company and share parentage with the likes of Omega, Glashutte Original, Hamilton and Blancpain to name a few.....

IMO Longines is only in the last year or so starting to be the sort of maker they used to be before quartz came along. For a long time after the quartz crisis they made watches that were far short of their previous efforts, but as noted that is turning around and things are looking up for the company. I still don't think they are at a level that is equivalent to where they once were in the watch world, but there is nothing wrong with their current line of mechanical watches as long as they don't start charging too much for them. Certainly not one of the top tier bands owned by Swatch, but right now good value for the money compared to some others out there.

I agree with Al on his assessment of the current incarnation of Longines. I have seen some of their watches, and I have to say that overall I like them. The designs are original and not just homage crap. I suspect that Swatch is maneuvering Longines into the "class hierarchy" occupied by Omega. All of what Swatch has done with Omega - like moving to the essentially in-house Co-Axial movement - is, to me, their attempt at moving them up the prestige ladder with Rolex as their main target. If Longines keeps doing things right, as they have been, they will easily be able to fit into that $2k - $3k entry-level luxury watch segment. I think that the Longines Clous de Paris, BelleArti, and Spirit collections are very nice. Here's one of the Spirit line... -Ben

I concur with Al and Ben. I've seen the one Ben showed a pic of (but on a strap). While I'm not a fan of the pre-aging effect of the arabics, this is really a nice watch in the flesh.
