Girard-Perregaux JCK 2015
Girard-Perregaux is always one of the most fun brands to examine because they have so many amazing and wild pieces, from tourbillons to the constant escapement. Read on to see the amazing new watches Girard-Perregaux is introducing for 2015.
First up is a new variety of Chronohawk mainly differentiated by its unique dial.
What makes these new Chrono Hawks so interesting is their semi-skeletonized dial. All Chrono Hawks have a texture to the dial, but here the recessed areas have been removed so you can see some of the movement underneath.
Even more impressive, however, is the Neo Tourbillon with Three Bridges. If you can get past the rather lengthy name you'll find an absolutely breathtaking modern interpretation of a Girard-Perregaux classic.
The watch does what it says--it's a tourbillon with three bridges (the middle being decorative), a signature of GP. The gorgeous tourbillon can be viewed at 6:00 and also acts as a seconds subdial while the top bridge holds a mainspring housed within a gold barrel.
The titanium bridges and dial are coated in a black, sandblasted material that gives the whole thing an almost stealth look to it.
Like most Girard-Perregaux watches, it's also available in pink gold. I may actually prefer the black case, however--it really fits the look.
The movement is, of course, incredible. Aside from its amazing looks, it has an almost secret micro rotor winding system being the going barrel, making this watch an automatic.
A new skeletonized Traveller model will join last year's similar Vintage 1945 in combining a transparent dial with a complicated watch. The new Traveller looks great, combining the globe-esque grid of the original model with a nice view of the watch's inner workings--it seems that skeletonization may be becoming a theme over at GP.
Speaking of the 1945, we can't forget this amazing 70th Anniversary Small Second model. This watch is classically beautiful, with its curved case and applied numerals. This is definitely one of the best dress watches out there and it looks tremendous in a gold case with gold accents. The '45s are, in general, my favorite GPs.
More, interesting, however, is the square around the seconds subdial and the extreme depth of it--almost a millimeter beneath the surface of the dial.
The back is engraved to reflect the anniversary, although I still prefer a good view of the in house movement myself.
Also on hand was the absolutely breathtaking ladies Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, complete with diamond bezel and a great looking mother of pearl dial.
If you're a diamond lover, the Cat's Eye Tourbillon with Gold Bridge is probably near the top of your list. The dial is basically composed of diamonds and the in-house tourbillon movement isn't lacking either.
The diamond obsession doesn't stop at the bezel as the entire case is covered in them.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to look at the new Chamber of Wonders, probably the major release for GP in 2015. Although GP's new additions are relatively few, they're also extremely high quality, showing the brand's continued dedication to haute horology.
