I like the style with the rivets, and will most likely put one of these on my Avalon Aero when it comes as the "base strap." It's probably the most historically correct for the flieger-style watch. But I think any heavier, rustic strap would look great on Al's watch. Something from Micah Dirken's collection would look good and I've seen straps from DeBeers that would look nice as well as the Di-Model "Jumbo." -Ben

As long as they are on a Pilot watch, they look great. They look sort of out of place on anything else. I just ordered 2 from him a couple days ago for my IWC Mark XVI, but I went with different leather than the link you posted. He's got a lot of options. forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=3416056&rid=18088#msg_3416056I went with #1 & #13...both pilot style. #1 #13

I agree with Sam. Perfect and historically accurate on a Pilot watch... sucks polar bear balls on any other style. I believe the strap I will get on my Archer Aero 98 will have a Jurgens dark tan pilot strap.

Archer Aero 98? when did that name come about? Have I missed something? Ben came up with 'Aero' as the name for the Pilot and the 98 designates it as a Unitas 6498 movement.

Mamas - those Steinhart straps do look pretty nice. Last night I ordered a custom strap from Jürgen for my future Archer Aero. Even though custom is more expensive you not only get, what can be, a more interesting and personalized strap, but more importantly to me, get a custom size. Most off-the-shelf straps are decidedly too short for my liking, And if the strap is made from thicker leather it needs to be even longer anyway for a comfortable fit. Can't wait to get it! Should be a few weeks. -Ben

Those Steinhart straps are also very well priced! I was looking at them a few weeks back when mamas first showed us his newly ordered steinhart. I was totally over that watch let me tell you! Ben may I ask the length you ordered on your custom strap? Cos they already say 150/82 which is pretty long by regular strap standards. I'm just curious is all! Question guys, whats with the silver keeper amongst the leather keepers here in this pic?

Ben may I ask the length you ordered on your custom strap? Cos they already say 150/82 which is pretty long by regular strap standards. I'm just curious is all! Hmmm...232mm. Interesting. That is large. Most standard straps come 210mm. For me, and I have a fairly large wrist at 6.75 inches, I would find that strap size a bit too large and somewhat annoying. I don't like a lot of strap wrapping around my wrist once it's buckled and gone through the keeper - and I prefer only one keeper instead of two. For watches with 42-43mm cases, I order 135/85mm straps. With heavier leather this fits me perfectly and I figure if I'm ordering custom then I can specify the size. Jürgen certainly didn't seem to have any issues with my size request. -Ben
