I was invited to attend a Panerai GTG in Toronto on the weekend. Although I don't own an Panerai, they were kind enough to let me and Jacqui tag along for their trips to the AD's and a late lunch.
We started at Solaris jewelers - I've bought a couple of watches there and they are good people. We arrived late so I missed a few of the demos but did see a couple of nice pieces. I didn't get time to take many photos though....
JLC Master Minute Repeater - still there and still $166K.....
For the first time I saw a GO Senator Sixties in the metal. I was really hot on this watch when I saw the photos last year, but then my interest waned. Now I'm undecided. There are things I like about it very much, and some I don't.....
One thing I will say - like all GO's the movement is fantastic, and the display back is quite nice with it being raised in the middle and much bigger in diameter than most sapphire backs are. I don't know of any other company that does them quite like this......
After that visit we were off to another AD in town - they don't allow photos, so we didn't stay long. I've been there many times and there wasn't much new that I was interested in.
Jacqui and I wandered around and went to another small shop I've bought at, and in the process I snapped a few shots of the Yorkville area. It was very pretty with the snow after the storm we all had Friday last week!
Then we were all off to a small Italian place for some great food - the gnocci was very nice!
It wasn't a huge gathering, so the table shot was not huge....
Actually about 1/3 of those are mine.
I liked this one quite a bit - forgive the finger print....nice blue dial!
The star of the day was a 201A that one guy had. Apparently it is worth a ton because it's an older model and only something like 200 were made. Not sure I could pick it out on the table shot but I think it's in the lower right section of the photo - had very yellow markings - almost orange.
When I got home it was time to check out the swag from Solaris - very nice!
UN hat and catalogue, Harry Winston catalogue, IWC watch roll, JLC key chain, a feature on Solaris from IWC.....quite nice!
It was nice that all the guys from Panereh welcomed us so warmly and were kind enough to let me make a short pitch on Archer watches. I think a couple of guys were interested so overall it was a great day.
