So What Watch is Everyone Dreaming About?

Well, dammit, watch fever is a pesky thing, ain't it? Made all the worse, for me anyway, by having "champagne taste with a beer pocketbook."

I collected cameras for many years and my collection evolved to 19th century American cameras. They were expensive. One of the good friends I made through that hobby said that one day he realized that "$40 cameras just don't do it for me any more." It's far funnier when you hear him tell the story, but ain't it the truth.

You get to a point in any obsession, umm...I mean collection, where the low end just isn't going to do it - for whatever reasons (some real and some probably imaginary).

Anyway...$3k watches just don't do it for me any more. .....

But, I'll admit, that I usually end up with the champagne - maybe only one bottle, and maybe the cheap stuff, but champagne none-the-less. Exhibit A: GO Sports EVO

My next "I really, really, really want this" target is the Jaeger LeCoultre AMVOX1. I saw one in the flesh and it made me gasp in exactly the same way I gasped when I saw the Sports EVO. It's unique looking and the quality - well, it's a JLC. I think the most striking thing about it for me is that it seems to sit between the sports and dress watch categories. Ain't she a beauty?





Hey! We're back to that champagne/beer thing again. It will take me a good while to come up with the denero for this one, so you aren't going to see me posting a wrist shot of it any time soon. But other than an Archer Aero, this is going to be my next watch.

OK...so what are y'all dreaming about? And I don't mean something that you know you'll never own. I want to see what you're actively drooling over, saving for etc. Oh, and don't forget: we like photos here.

No access to photobucket but there are two that I'm really liking lately. Okay three... but two are really out of reach right now.

I'd LOVE a Panerai PAM233, the fiddy with the 8-day in-house movement. Gorgeous watch but at $12,000, really out of reach.

Last summer I fell in love with a Jaquet Droz big second hand with the carbon fibre dial. Stunning! On the used market they fetch about $8,000... so out of reach but only just.

The one attainable watch I'd love to get is one I have previously owned and sold. It's the JLC Master Compressor Memovox. I sold mine to get the 210, which I don't regret and in a perfect world I would have kept the JLC AND added the 210, but it was this or that. Hopefully I can pick one up in the future. Great watch and the alarm is just soooo cool.

I'm really hankering for the JLC Duometre, but before I do anything I need to see it in person. I don't know when or how that will be as there's only one AD in my area and they suck, soooo I'll wait paitiently for the JLC local grey market dealer to acquire one.

There are so many I would like to have. I'm really looking for a GO Senator Panorama date with moon phase one day. But for the >$12K, I'll need to feel it on my wrist first. Probably let someone else take the initial hit on the value.

My Rolex AD may be getting Panerai. If so I might be tempted to pick up a 190 if I can get it at a discount. I do like the Radiomir case (much better than the Luminor...at least to my wrist).



If I find a JLC Master Moon with a black dial for the right price, that would be another one high up the list. Or maybe an RDM black dial.

Nothing on the Rolex front peaks my interest too much, but we will see what comes out of Basel.

Hi Sam, I don't think the 190 is in production anymore.... You might have to go for the Automatic Radiomir instead YOu might be lucky to find one of the last of the 210s.. I think there's going to be 500 made for the final batch in the J series

I agree about the Rad case - fits my small wrists better than the Luminor's do.

So you want the same movement twice? Although the 190 has different finishing, and less complications, I believe it uses the same JLC base that's in your M8D....
