... and just staring.... ... the salesperson at my favorite AD politely asked me if she can take the watch from my hand and put it back in the display case. What watch was it? A Maurice Lacroix. Not even my kind of a watch... but ... MAN! I could not take my eyes off the balance wheel... and the Swiss Lever escapement... I may just have to save up the cash to buy one of those even though I will never wear it. And this picture does not do it justice.

Chip, I'm glad to see that you appreciate these types of watches, after awhile the old day/date thing get's a little old (at least a little) (sometimes) Damn nice watches they are...

They are both gorgeous, but that skeleton is just stunning! I've been looking at skeletons myself, in all price ranges. As I know it wouldn't get a lot of wear, would like to go inexpensively, but that one makes you pause. I can understand why you were entranced when you had it in your hands.

They would give it to me for 2500 USD. Yuck! Too much for something I would stare at but never wear.

Don't want to get into the old bang for the buck discussion, but IMHO spending that kind of money on something that nice, is money well spent... And all of it doesn't go to advertising... Or Representatives... Or Sponsorship fees... You know Chip, a Ferrari feels good under your ass, but so does a Corvette... And will hold more G's on a skidpad...

I already have enough diver watches and with the exception of the vintage omega that I have, none of my watches can be worn with a dress shirt due to their thickness.
I agree that from a resale or prestige point of view, that ML makes no sense. There are plenty other watches that have a lot higher pedigree for the same money.
On the other hand, all the ML "Masterpiece" collection watch cases are made in house and they are not even engraved with a serial number until they have passed numerous tests. All the engraving is done by hand, and all the final assembly is done by hand.
Like I said before, I doubt that I would ever wear that as I would be terrified that I would break it.
To me the difference between that and an Omega and a Rolex for example is that the ML Masterpiece Skeleton is a work of art, a piece of jewelery while the Omega or a Rolex is just an outstanding watch.
they are different and they are not targeted at the same audience.
Life is not about money and resale value. If it would be all about that, I would buy nothing but slightly used Rolex watches and I would probably never lose a penny on them.
Just my two cents.

Life is not about money and resale value. Wise words Chip and I agree 100% (to both your quote and the fact that the ML is a work of art). Regards - Neil.

I think it is a sweet looking watch, I think it would be a great addition to anyone's collection, and you would never run into someone with the same watch on as you ;D

LOL I might be out of place with this so Admin... feel free to censor my post LOL A fine watch is in many way like a beautiful woman. We love a beautiful, fancy, glamorously dressed girl but every now and then there is nothing wrong with looking at her without being all "encased". LOL

Let me spin it 180. The woman that you love is much better than a fine watch. If you treat her right, with love and respect, the pleasure that you will receive in return is so much better than the possession of any tangible object. I love watches and I love women but I love women more.

Now if I could just find a find watch that if treated right the movement pops out in all it's bare glory.....
