:-/OK then, do you like a Yacth typical watch or maybe a diver watch? If you like Yacth model, then you can choose between Rolex YM, or Corum Admiral's Cup 48mm (What a WATCH!!!). If you like Diver's watch model then you can choose, Seiko Black Monster (My favorite), Rolex Submariner or Sea-Dweller, or Panerai 111 or 005. I think someone here can help you in more detail information. Congrats!!! Hope enjoy your stay here.

Welcome to the forum! Although TR would have you believe that the Rolex Yachtmaster model is a nautical watch, both versions of the YM really don't have any nautical history or purpose (other than looking quite flash at the yacht club ). For a watch with true nautical heritage, there's only one choice in my mind - the Ulysse Nardin 1846 Marine Chronometer. UN has a history of making ship's chronometers and the 1846 watch is a very good hommage to that history and style. Here is a photo of a true ship's chronometer made by UN I found on the Bay..... You can see that the watch is very close to that style.... Although this one has Arabic markings, this watch is also available with Roman numerals that really make it look like the ship's chronometer. Although it doesn't have an anchor on the dial like the example you show, there are anchors in the form of the UN logo on the bracelet. Honestly I can't think of another watch that has this sort of connection to the nautical world. Hope this helps.

Just my opinion....Just my opinion... What's wrong about YM? I think it's a good watch...

The YM is an okay watch but aside from it's name the YM has no nautical history at all.
The UN has over a century of nautical history. Panerai also made ship chronometers to a small extent but are more known as the worlds first scuba diver watch.
The Corum that is mentioned above also is very nautical in that its hour markers are the nautical flags for each numeral, but at 47mm it's not a size everyone can pull off.

Just my opinion....Just my opinion... What's wrong about YM? I think it's a good watch... Please don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say there was anything "wrong" with the YM, but the original is clearly not a nautical themed watch despite it's name - I know I had one. The YMII is not only ugly as sin IMO, but is really quite useless for it's stated purpose (timing the start of a yacht race). Both are far more expensive than the UN is (especially the YMII), and the UN clearly has more of a nautical theme and heritage. We don't always have to agree on things TR.....as you said it's "just my opinion."

It's Ok you don't agree with my opinion, like I'm not always agree with yours. Just please I need a lil' bit respect from you, like I always respect you Sir. OK then, let this conversation over. Sorry if I do wrong to you.

Sorry if I do wrong to you. Huh? I don't believe I showed any disrespect towards you. You offered up the YM I and II as nautical watches, and they really aren't IMO - they have no nautical history or markings. I gave an alternate option that does have serious nautical history behind it, and then you said I thought there was something "wrong" with the YM line which is clearly not what I said. TR - it's no secret that I am not a fan of the Rolex brand, and it's no secret that you are one of the biggest fans of the brand I've seen on any watch forum. Due to being told I am "Rolex bashing" in the past I try to stay away from you and your threads as much as possible to prevent any conflict. Previous experience on another forum with someone like you ended up in a bad way, and I don't want to repeat that here - both for my sake and that of the people who run WWF (who I respect a great deal). I have no animosity towards you and if you love Rolex then that's fine with me. But if someone asks a question about what is a good nautically themed watch, then I'll give my opinions both about how "nautical" the Rolex YM is (honestly a Sub or SD has more nautical heritage than either of the YM's do) and about what I think is a watch that truly fits the profile that the person is asking about. It's not any personal attack on you, so please don't make it something that it isn't. I'm sorry if you thought I was getting on your case. Best regards, Al

Tomahawk, Great topic. Thanks for bringing it up. Help us to nail things down a bit more for you: Are you interested in a watch that has functions for nautical activities (i.e. sailing), or are you just looking for a watch that would serve you well in the water in general (such as diving, snorkeling, swimming, etc.). Or, are you just looking for a watch that looks like it would be a sailing watch, but doesn't really have any real sailing applications? Am I making any sense? Let us know what you think and we'll do our best to make some recommendations for you. And welcome.

I spend alot of time on the water. it's definatly going to spend some time in the water also. Really the only purpose is to tell the time, and pretty much look good. pretty much id like something that has some simalarities to the watch i photoshoped up. also i think after i seen the price tag on some of the watches i have seen so far id be to scared to even wear them on a boat let alone get in the water with it on. So for now we will say go for looks more then purpose. I noticed these russian dive watches on ebay though they are cheap knock offs cgi.ebay.com.au/RUSSIAN-MILITARY-NAVY-DIVING-WATCH-SOVIET-DIVER-USSR_W0QQitemZ200210505051QQihZ010QQcategoryZ111652QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem also you could never actually wear this watch out anywhere given the size of it... i really liked the style of that watch also.. anyway see how you guys go ill be intrested in anything you can come up with... also if i photoshoped up a watch i really liked is it possible to get someone to make it even.. thanks guys
