Well, how cool is this? Today is the first day I've taken my newly refurbished vintage Hamilton Yorktowne "into the wild" as it were. I was standing in line at the hospital food court this morning waiting to pay for my daily cup of joe (a large Guatemala Antigua with 1/2 & 1/2 and one Splenda to be precise), and a doctor noticed my watch and made a very nice comment about it. I'm sure I was beaming (even before coffee) when I said that it was my grandfather's watch and that a friend restored it for me. Pretty frickin' cool, huh? It's first day out. -Ben

Wow, that is cool. I think the last time I had an unsolicited remark about a watch on my wrist was a month after I bought my first (and last) Rolex some five years ago. Nice way to christen the Hammy.

Nice Ben! Glad to hear you are wearing it and that it's looking good. For me compliments or comments of any kind on watches are rare. I've actually had a couple of people say they thought my Master Moon was nice though. As for my long gone Rolex, the only comment I ever got was "Is it real?"

Great story Ben, that Hamilton is just gorgeous and even better than its an heirloom well done guys! As for watches being noticed, I've got 1 friend well she's sort of a friend... who always notices my watches. With my latest DJ she stared at it on and off for hours before asking about it.. but I have a feeling that she's more interested in the name and so called exclusivity of the brand rather than the fact its a beautiful watch. Says when she goes home to Hong Kong she's gonna buy one. I once heard someone describe Rolex as a brand that has too much 'emotional baggage' I think thats a pretty good description of the average person's response to the brand....
