I have several questions about the Speedmaster/moonwatch. 1) What can i expect for accuracy out of the box straight from Omega (no cosc +-)? 2) Is the 17/18 jewel hand wounded movement as accurate as the usual automatic brothers, and how many years till service? 3) How does the display glass/dial compares in size to the Seamaster 2254.50 or Bond/Blue SMP, is it bigger or not? 4) is it overal bigger, thicker than the Seamaster Professional Bond/Black 2254.50/Blue SMP? 5) This is the one i would want : 3573.50(sapphire sandwich, sapphire front/back) Is that watch the same in size like the hesalite/steel caseback Speedmasters. And will Omega discontinue this model? (i hope not) Thank you for reading

I have several questions about the Speedmaster/moonwatch. I'll do the best I can, here. Though, not Chronometer certified, Speedies are surprisingly accurate over time. I've never purchased a new one but, from what I've seen 5+/- out of the box is pretty conservative. Mine, which are pretty old, run 2 and 3 seconds fast. My opinion is yes! Omega's "new" Co-axial movement may be the exception, but the Speedy and SMP are of comparable accuracy. I owned both for a brief period of time (before I sold the SMP for another Speedy ;D), so I'm working from my foggy memory. The SMP has a wider bezel, so the crystal and dial of the Speedy are a bit larger. The case of the SMP is "chunkier" and wears a bit larger. They're both full-sized Speedies and, overall are the same size. There are very subtle adjustments to accomodate the sapphire crystal, which isn't as high as the classic Speedy's. I don't see why they'd discontinue it anytime soon. Enough people really want sapphire and, that movement is a beauty to see! I like to read I hope this helps! eric

Eric thank you very much for clearing things up "answering all those questions". true Eric, the movement is a beauty/the whole watch. I guess you can also play with the accuracy.. to wound it a bit more, or let the chronograph function running.

My pleasure, Erik. I had a lot of help when I started learning about the Speedy (I still have a lot to learn, myself). Hmm...I think it would be tricky to try to "tweak" the accuracy with winding or running the chrono. A full wind once a day should keep things right on track. As for letting the chronograph run all the time, our very knowldegable frined, Jean Michael recently clarified that this isn't wise, and places undue wear on the gears.

erik, i think eptaz has pretty much answered all your questions, the speedmaster is a thinner watch than the seamaster porfessional, and maybe slightly smaller in size.. but i have a 6 3/4 inch wrist and the speedmaster wears well .
