Hi guys, does anyone know when the GMTII got the triplock crown? I’m surprised that the Explorer II still only has the twin lock version. Why would a GMT need a triplock and an Exp2 not? Both are rated at 100m- though I suspect 300m would be more like the reality. I guess they don’t want to intrude on the Submariner market.

Pete,
The GMT got the triplelock crown in 2007 when it switched to the 116710.

Actually, I have wondered the same thing about the Explorer II vs the GMT II. Although, I suppose for uniformity in the Explorer lineup, as the Explorer 1 is Twinlock as well, although not nearly as robust a crown system. Perhaps I am unreasonably obsessed with the Triplock, but it has been a reason that I wanted a Rolex Sports watch for so long. To test my feelings about the Triplock, I tried on my Explorer 1 this morning. I honestly don't see, at this point, that the Explorer 1 is going to get much wrist time. I may sell it, matter of fact a friend of mine is interested, and will give me what I paid. It also appears, looking at the pics on the Rolex website, that the crown of the Deepsea is actually even bigger than the SD43 or Sub. I have to admit that, since I got the Sub, I have been unscrewing it and winding it at least twice a day, just to enjoy the experience, especially in screwing it back into place!

Thanks Robb👍
You’re right Carl re the DSSD - the crown is massive. I wonder if the new SD and the Subs share the same size crown....

Thanks Robb👍 You’re right Carl re the DSSD - the crown is massive. I wonder if the new SD and the Subs share the same size crown.... It's been so long since I have seen a DSSD in real life, that all I have to go on is the photos. When I did try the SD43 a few weeks ago, I didn't notice any difference between it and my Sub. I would sure love to get my hands on a DSSD, though, in real life, just to experience it!

Great watch but I don’t miss the weight and height of it.
