With the worldwide pandemic and the stock markets around the world dropping like rocks, do you think availability will increase and prices drop back to normal - meaning some SS models with discounts?
My thoughts - we are in for 8-12 months before we are back to normal and the stock market will continue to decline. A lot of the speculators have come into the watch market because of the wealth effect of a 10+ year bull market. Those same people have been driving up the prices and I think they will be feeling poorer and selling off their watches which will increase availability and thus soften the second hand market. Once that happens, the delta in price between new and used will become larger, so more people will start seeing the value in used, and thus the new watch inventory will increase and we will start to see discounting again.
That’s my two cents and it’s worth what you paid for it, but what do you think?

I think people will be looking for bargains, for the reasons you suggest Roger. Probably not the best time to sell...
Cheers, Al

I still think the drop in the market will take a lot of the “speculators” out of the marketplace for a long time - well after the stock market recovers, so I do think we will see prices soften, especially on the second hand market for the easier to get model watches/brands.

You too Roger. Where I am things are being shut down, and I'm very happy to be working from home, and getting my work shipped in and out. I am taking precautions since I have some health issues, so even though I have some local customers, I'm not taking and drop off or pick ups for the time being. I have a feeling this is going to get way worse before it gets better... Take care everyone!

Take care everyone! I agree - I told my wife a few weeks ago, I think we have 6-9 months of the pandemic ahead. My wife and I both started working from home this week and are lucky to be able to do so. We have a seperate freezer in the garage that is well stocked with proteins and soups, but we need to get some frozen veggies and canned good to be fully prepared. At worst, I have 3 months of MRE's in the basement and plenty of fuel for the camp stove if the zombies appear. Glad you are taking precautions Al. As a Type 1 diabetic and in my late 50's, I'm being extra cautious myself.

As a Type 1 diabetic and in my late 50's, I'm being extra cautious myself. We are trying to be reasonable with what we buy, but it took us 3 trips to various stores over a week to restock toilet paper. We did buy a few extras of canned goods, pasta, etc. so we won't run out of any food soon. We have lots in our freezer as well. My wife was "reorganized" out of her job a little more than a year ago, so she has been looking for something but hasn't been able to get the right fit so far. With the recessions that is surely coming, I don't think she will be finding a new job any time soon. She still has severance coming in for another year, but we were hoping she could get something before that, but it doesn't seem likely now. For me since I take meds that suppress my immune system, it makes me in a high risk group for this virus, so keeping myself as isolated as I can is the right choice for now. Some of the models I've seen about the spread and effects of this have been pretty alarming, so I do hope that governments are taking the right steps, but I think a lot of fighting this is going to be up to individuals to do the right thing, and stay home as much as possible. It's frustrating that still I see people on line saying this is no big deal...these are the people who are going to make it very difficult to get a handle on this... Cheers, Al
