Check out their website: www.glashuette-original.com/They have a fine history of horology. After WW2 they were behind the iron curtain but continued to make robust watches. Since the wall came down, they have picked up the pace considerably, building watches that rival A. Lange & Sohne (another legendary house in the Glashutte area). A buddy of mine just bought a GO PanoReserve (at the other place, he posted a review not long ago) and it's a stunning watch. Every time I've held a GO in my hands, I can't think anything other than this is about as good as a watch can get. They aren't as tough as Rolex, but they are pieces of art, with true artisans designing and building these watches. They have a 'junior' line called Union Glashutte, that use detuned GO movements but are only sold in Austria, Germany Switzerland and I think Liechtenstein. Another beauty is Muhle Glashutte, which are not of GO or even Union quality, (as they use ETA movements - reworked, of course) but the case and dial finish is superb.

Sam and I just got through looking at Glashutte watches about one hr ago. Personally, I can't think of a better dress watch than Glashutte. The only other dress watch that I like a lot (in that price range) would be A Lange & Sohne. Glashutte's and Lange's factories are literally across the street from eachother!

The big diff between Lange and GO is that GO makes their watches in stainless steel as well as gold and platinum. Lange doesn't make any watches in SS, so you're looking at HUGE bucks for gold.
The Panoreserve goes for about CDN$9000 in Toronto. And you can work a good discount.

I think it's about 7k or so for SS one at Bachendorff and you can work a pretty much guaranteed 20% off.

Glashutte's are beautiful watches, but I can't spending that kind of wonkers on them. Not to mention that you take bath if you ever wanted to sell it.
I think the only way I'd pick one up is if I could pick one up on the cheap.

Glashutte does make some gorgeous watches. I really love the Panoreserve, but like Clifton said you'll most likely take a beating if you ever sell it. IMO this watch would be a good one to pick up lightly used. If I ever were to buy a high dollar dress watch, this would be the one.
