DLC coatings are indeed a very interesting technology : DLC stands for Diamond Like Carbon : thoses are coatings on metal wich are extremly hard (the hardness is comparable to diamond) but bare in mind that this is only a thin layer so if it protect rthe watch extremly well against scratches it does not protect it against shocks a shock can damage the underneath metal a make an ugly impact mark , even sometimes the layer of DLC might peel of near the impact A perfect solution against scratches , but be carefull with impacts as if it is dammaged this will not ne fixable (you can't replolish the zone and you can't recoat the peel of DLC) cheers JM

Interesting .. not sure what the benefit of such a coating and the $$$ it adds onto retail of watch would be. Sinn uses a hardening process on their watches.. how is this different JM? I remember some crazy guy attacking such a Sinn watch with a pair of scissors and scartaching it to prove a point that it could be scratched...

I remember some crazy guy attacking such a Sinn watch with a pair of scissors and scartaching it to prove a point that it could be scratched... this is indeed VERY different DLC is a coating : adding a new material by evaporation process : the coating is not of the same material as the case Sinn uses a "harden" process of their cases : it is not an added material but a thermal process which create on the surface of the steel a harder surface both of DLC and Sinn process create a "hard shell" DLC is the more scratch resistant BUT the more fragile Sinn process is very good at scrath resistance and less fragile than DLC The best sdolution seen to be found by Damasko who also makes a special treatment to their stainless steel alloy but this treatment is all inside the material : this is NOT a "hard shell" but indeed a hardened steel , offering a good scratch resistance and a better handelling of shocks to resume if you are concerned by scratches , either DLC or hardened case is an excellent choice BUT if you are concern by shock resistance thoses treatments are not the best to suit to your use cheers JM

That's a killer looking G-Shock, but for $1200 I think I'll have to pass.

i dont think just because its a G-shock it should be considered a "cheap" watch
the MRG line is the elite line of Casio and i think this watch can stand more pressure than any of the big name watches... And the technology it uses is top notch right now. Cant go wrong with a watch like this
