I have both a photobucket and imageshack account. Lately photobucket always resizes my photos (especially PS stuff) even though they are small files and it is really annoying.
Imageshack seems to be always down. So I was wondering what everyone else uses to host photos or should i just dish out the cash and get an upgraded photobucket???

Photobucket allows for up to 512K images on the free accounts....that should be plenty for anything you want to post on the web. How large are your files? You may need to look at the JPG compression level of your files, too.

I always make sure they are under 512, but every time I try and post something that came from PS it always resizes the jpeg to like 600x412 or something really small And it never does with Imageshack, but it seems to be down quite often.

Hmmm....that's weird. Are you near your storage limit or something? I'll go try and upload a large file to photobucket and see what happens.

I use photobucket. It has reduced some of mine as well to like 480X360 for no reason. Others upload just fine. Odd...

I think I figured it out, I went to my settings in photobucket and for some reason it had been changed so that the max was 256 instead of 512 So I changed it back and it seems to be fine, maybe the same thing happened to you Clifton.

If you don't mind $23/year, I would highly reccomend PBase Photo Database. US$23 yearly for 300 Megabytes of photo storage. or US$60 yearly for 900 Megabytes of photo storage. Additional storage can be added at any time in increments of 300MB. Included Features Direct Image Linking (post your photos on other sites) help Number of photos limited only by your available storage space. Unlimited number of galleries. Zip uploads, Stylesheets, EXIF extraction, automatic thumbnailing

You can also pay $25/yr on Photobucket to upgrade to 1GB of storage and max image size of 1MB. Think it also adds a few other extras...like easier/faster ways to upload pics.

Photobucket is probably a bit easier. PBase is neat cause it allows you to create really nice galleries. It's like having your own website.

I use www.free-image-hosting.us/. Have been for a year or so, and have had no problems with the service. They allow 500 1500k images that are linkable. They also give you the ability to sort your files with thumbnails. The only catch is if your image is inactive for 90 days, they reserve the right to delete the image (I have several that are over a year old that I don't believe have been accessed - so I don't think this is a hard rule.) Give these guys a try.

I use my Comcast personal homepage server. Works for me and it's free.

Just noticed this I am using smugmug - you can see some of my pics at: designmjc.smugmug.com flat fee per year, no limit on storage, no limit on uploads, never seems to go down. Check out the help section. Highly recommended. M
