Well I started seriously photographing things when I was about 12years old - when I was interested in ornithology (birds of the feathered variety) and my Dad (god bless him) bought me my first real SLR - an Olympus OM-10. It was a great camera - because it was completely manual but it had the LED style through the lens exposure meter (WOW!!!) - light meter - though my Dad swore by an external light meter - non of this new fangled wizzy stuff - so, manual focus, manual aperture, manual shutter speed, manual film speed setting, manual wind and manual spring shutter release. Excellent!!! He gave me a massive 500mm lens to take birdy pictures with (nudge nudge) as well as the standard 50mm lens. Great fun but quite difficult as it started at f8 / 1/250th (from memory)... Well things have moved on - I now have a DSLR - the Nikon D70 - great camera - can be set from auto everything to totally manual so - so I switch off all the automatic stuff - stick on a manual focus lens and fly by the seat of the proverbial pants - using the built in histogram to gauge correct exposure instead of a light meter - and I'm in my element. Ok I do use auto metering and focusing quite a bit too but my earlier experiences with the OM-10 live on.. Well that's a bit about my photographic history - with a big chunk left out of the middle eg the Nikon F601 or the Coolpix 4500 and a big bit of time.. How about you other guys
