What is your take on this camera? Is it worth the USD 550 average street price? It seems to be about the lowest priced true SLR out there.

From what I have read the D50 is a great entry level SLR and an outstanding value at 550. It depends on what you want to use it for though. SLRs are great all purpose cameras and they have interchangeable lenses which is an advantage over non SLR cameras and through the lens is great for action and sport shooting. For watch photography I'd prefer to have something with a twist and swivel LCD so that I can be comfortable while framing and focusing. Interchangeable lens are not needed for this kind of shooting either. For about the same money I'd prefer to get the Canon G6. I think they have better CCD technology than Nikon as far as color is concerned and that style of camera would more suited to my needs. The Nikon is certainly worth the money and could be a better choice for you, it depends on what you want and need.
