I narrowed it down to those three. I currently use a friend's Canon 350D, which I like, but it costs 300 more than the other two options. I do not own any glass, so I am wide open. Below are three links to images taken with those cameras. Please tell me which one you like best. Canon EOS 350DNikon D50Konika Minolta Maxxum 5D

If money is an issue I'd go with Nikon and spend the difference between it and the Canon on a good lens, if it's not I'd go with the Canon.

money is ALWAYS an issue with me. Oddly enough, I like the Minolta pictures the best!

Personally I'd go for a Nikon D70s - better functionality, rather than the D50 - I have the D70 (pre-cursor to the D70s) which uses the same sensor and love it! You can probable ebay a cheap D70s/D70 as the D200 came out recently that I for one am drooling over!! So I'm going to hit the D50 button The Canon sits rather 'small' in the hand for my preference. Like most things - it's personal preference and since you're probably used to the 350D already then you may as well go for that one - Nikon / Canon - both rock

Thanks Martyn! I am thorn between those two as well. Canon/Nikon. When I was in the store the guy took a picture of me with all three cameras in full auto then printed the images. He asked me which one I liked the most, without telling me which image was taken by which camera. Oddly enough, I picked the Minolta hands down! The Canon seemed to have the best auto white balance (the store had sun light, fluorescent and tungsten lights. The most confusing environment for a camera) and the most neutral colors. The image also looked kinda flat and boring. The Nikon had by far the sharpest image. It just seemed to jump out from the picture. Almost 3D looking. But it had the worst colors. It looked over exposed and it had a purple hue. The Minolta was somewhere in between the Canon and Nikon as far as sharpness and it had the most vivid colors and the least amount of reflections on the skin. I am so confused...

For what it's worth - setting White Balance is (just) a matter of setting it correctly - you will find that the difference between DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras is that you have virtually complete control over the way the picture is taken with DSLR, but point-and-shoot needs little experience as there is little control. I can be a case that you take worse pictures with a DSLR than point-and-shoot. By analogy - an automatic car is easier to drive but a stick-shift gives you more control and arguably more power / fun in the end... One thing in Canon's favor is, it has better in-box software, but if you have PS anyway I guess you'll be using that anyway.. Cheers - Martyn
