Hi guys, anybody willing to give a pretty poor photographer some advice on how to do real close close-ups? TIA - Neil. This is the best I can currently do:

Hi Neil Your camera must have macro functions.. And it would help a lot to use a tripod for very close close-ups.

Like Erik said, make sure that your camera is in Macro mode. It should easily be identified by this symbol: On most cameras, the macro mode is selected by turning the dial selector. Second, holding the camera steady is a MUST. That means that you either need a tripod (I use a 10 dollars tabletop tripod) or you can simply set the camera down on the same surface as the watch. Really... that's about it. What it the resolution on your camera? If you take the pic below at full resolution and just crop the area you want to show, you should have your macro shot.
