Hi JM, This is JJ....that's right, the one and only!! I have a serious question: You see, I prefer to see the second hand on my new Crosswind running all the time rather than stationary at '12' as it is misleading and makes me read the "wrong" time. Is it okay, therefore, to leave the second hand running all the time? Besides affecting the Power Reserve of the watch by maybe an hour or so, would that cause any adverse effect on the movement of the watch in the long run? What is your expert opinion on this particular model with the Valjoux 7750 movement? Thanks - JJ

What is your expert opinion on this particular model with the Valjoux 7750 movement? Thanks - JJ Hi JJ answer to your question NO it is not recommanded to run the chronogrpah all the time for the following reasons 1°) Teething of the chronograph wheels are NOT designed to run permanently , a simple look to the pic of chronograph wheel vs standard watch wheels can highlight that : do you see how "peeky" the teething is compared to the ogival "standard" teething ? 2°) in case of a shock the very fragile teething of the central second can easely be damaged 3°) the oiling of the chronogrpah part of the movement have not been designed to run permanently and even some movements do not have jewels on pivots but simply bronze alloy inserts by far more subject to wear 4°) it is neither safe to keep the chronograph stopped but NOT reset : in this case the brake will apply a force to the central second teething , in case of a shock the teething have a great risk to be damaged specially on watches not using Delrin brakes (Val 7750 have a metal brake in the most recent versions) A chronograph mechanism have NEVER been designed to run permanently even if some watchmakers have taken this "bad habbit" of some users to do this (some movements like the 33XX is known to be less subject to wear if run permanently) I hope this helps cheers JM

great informative answer, i.ve seen this asked several times before with only "yes but no but" answers
could you answer this , can the time the date snap changes on the rolex 3135? SD alter, i have always believed the actual time of change wether it be 1 sec / 2 minutes past midnight was a constant determined by the placing of the hands on the mechanism when assembled. yet mine has fluctuated from spot on midnight when new to now some 6 months later to 2minutes past the hour
many thanks steve

I must confess I ave never track this on any of my watches , but I'll try to have a look cheers JM

Thanks so much for that excellent and illustrative reply, JM. I shall heed your advice and keep the Chrono function stopped unless I need to time my 12 year old grand-daughter who is into very serious swimming. Cheers - JJ
