From my scrutiny of this photo, it appears to me that he is in a zero G situation. His clothing, particularly his shorts are indicative of this as well as the white flex line to his XVR appears to be floating. His dress is somewhat indicative that he is aboard during orbit.

It also says that "This picture was on a film roll recovered from the debris", so obviously, that B has been in space. Lots of brave men and women perished that february first....

I saw the shuttle fly over the sky that morning... I was outside waiting for it. They can wear anything they want while in the pressurized shuttle environment. Only when it comes time to official timing or EVA do they have to switch to a certified watch. Of course, the Speedmaster Pro is still the only one approved for EVA.
