I saw Blood Diamond last night. Good movie. Really enjoyed it. However, it made me miss my Chrono Avenger. Can't think of a much tougher watch than that one!! The question is... was this watch available in 1999 when the story takes place??

I was wondering the same about the watch he would wear - if it would be correct for the period... the movie is set in 1999 I believe and the Aeromarine series including the Chrono Avenger didn't show up in the Chronolog (Breitling catalogue) until the 2001 edition which was published in October 2000. That said, Breitling sometimes introduces models a little too late to make it into the Chronolog. It is possible the CA was released as early as late summer or autumn 1999 making it too late to be included in the 2000 Chronolog which would have a publish date of October 1999. If this supposition if not correct, let's go with this one... Danny Archer had been smuggling diamonds for quite some time and he had an excellent business relationship with the local Breitling area rep in Sierra Leone and was presented with a "pre-introduction" model Chrono Avenger as a token of appreciation for being an outstanding role model for capitalistic endeavours. Apologies in advance for the tongue in cheek. I know it isn't politically correct to satirize what is arguably one of the saddest and worst cases of human suffering in history. The movie did a great job in helping to make the public aware of the horrific plight and shameful abuse of that nation. A recent documentary on the Discovery channel gave even more insight into the history and causes of the debacle in Sierra Leone. Highly recommended. Enough of the soap box. Chip has some FANTASTIC shots of his CA which I am certain he will be more than happy to re-post for us on this thread... Cheers, Ron

... pictures on another site. It was shown in those shots that the crown was not screwed-in all the way. You can see that a little in the third picture... I guess Leonardo set the time and forgot to screw it in a hurry ... with all those people chasing him and all... I guess that is understandable...

Good catch Altan! Looks like the first pic is unscrewed too.

Good catch Altan! Looks like the first pic is unscrewed too. reading a thread somewhare a couple of years ago about wristwatches in movies. One poster asserted that actors sometimes wear non-working "prop" watches as assigned by the producer/director. Maybe that's why Leo's CA crown is out. The strap is certainly non-OEM which perhaps adds weight to that argument... BTW, Altan, you're in luck. Go ahead and order one of the new "Skyland" Avengers in either polished SS (my preference) or the limited edition Blacksteel models. Either one would help heal the hurt. If not, you can still pick up an original Ti case CA before they're dis-continued late this year. (Yes, to be replaced by the "Skyland") Cheers, Ron
