My father recently passed and I was given a couple of his watches. One of these is a PIAGET gold "polo" watch, similar to the one in this image: There are no instructions, and I am unfamiliar about wrist watches in general. Im assuming its a wind up watch. As of now it is not running. I shook it, and i tried to wind it up... Which direction do I wind? and for how long? It is an old watch, perhaps it is in need of servicing, I am not sure. What is the proper wind up procedure? Thank you.

Hello and welcome.
I'm not familiar with that watch (nice one, though) but a few things to keep in mind. An automatic watch will wind with regular wrist movement. After some motion it should begin to run. A manual watch is wound and usually an up and down motion on the crown for about a dozen cycles will get it going. The watch could be a quartz, which would be battery powered (yes, even Rolex had quartz watches) and the battery may be dead. With either, make sure the crown is pushed in against the case. Not being secure could cause it to not run.
And yes, you're right, the watch probably does need service. Find a professional watchmaker in your area for service rather than just dropping it off at a jewelry store.
Good luck and keep us informed.

I agree. Try to find a reputable watchmaker who can service the watch and get it in tip-top shape for you.
