Several years ago, I saw a watch for sale at an estate sale. It was among the most unique watches I've ever seen, and I'm still kicking myself for not writing down its name. I was hoping some of you might be able to help me find one like it.
It had its mechanism concealed in the rim of the watch (around the outside edge) and the hands were attached to two round glass plates, which occupied the center of the watch. The watch was completely clear all the way through-the hands seemed to hover in space, and were attached to nothing except the glass plates. The mechanism in the edges of the watch turned the glass plates (and with them, the hands).
I've never seen another one like it, and believe me I've looked.
If anyone knows the brand or make of a watch that fits this description, please let me know.
Thanks, --B

Welcome to WWF! I don't recognize the model or maker that you are describing, but in general these are known as "Mystery" watches. Hamilton made a watch like this as did other makers, so if you try searching with the term "mystery watch" or "mystery dial" you might find some examples. Here is a link to one such result showing a Hamilton.... www.ninanet.net/watches/others04/Mediums/mhamiltonmys.htmlSteveG is a well known collector on many forums and has some incredible photos on his site. Here is another with a Longines model that has hands, so closer to what you describe. www.vintagewatch.ca/?p=365Hope this helps. Cheers, Al
